go to pawn shop and buy a non-descript cue butt that is straight and has a standard joint, buy a good maple shaft to fit and the best tip for it. Maybe a butt with a NFL or NBA design or NASCAR or beer brand. It would be ugly and hacked together, but it would play great. What do you think???

I did see a road guy who played real sporty with a beer logo cue, here in Ohio, back around 2005, I made a couple of comments off to the side about the cue, and he said he was Tascarellas nephew, and he had made it for him.

Might be a nice cue, but it would not be a sneaky pete--might be a merry widow, though.

A sneaky pete needs to look like the bar cues on the wall.

Funny you say that…. I took an old cue to my cue maker, I’m having him wrap it with a vinyl wrap printed with mountain/river scene with a light blue hue to it. Ordered some Busch light logos to go on top. He bored out the butt and putting a nice maple core inside with a good joint and one of his shafts put on it. It’s kinda like the opposite of a sneaky but same purpose. It’s going to be my bar/travel cue. I’m actually pretty excited to get it all finished up lol
 
I still wouldn’t trust it. After 30+ years of playing with a great hitting cue, I don’t have another 30 years left to generate the same confidence.

That being said, I would buy it and put it in the rack with the other dozen great hitting cues I have. I love ‘em all and can’t seem to separate with any of them.

I have a cheap Lucky from McDermott. $99.

I am getting a tip put in it and thinking about sending it to someone to paint it. Like something artistic. Like graffiti. A typical bar bathroom theme.

There are actual guys at my pool room with Frankenstein cues. This one guy put a golf club wrap on. Another made his cue 30 oz and shoots lights out. He was banned once from using it. Not sure how they found out but someone ratted him out. Some of these guys have been playing with them for years. They use those dotted meucci shafts. I’m assuming at the time are the carbons of today.

The extensions in the middle are popular and a few of them are homemade.

I had one of those cigarette cues and beer cues but the pin is incompatible with today’s shafts.

Is the golf wrap 30 oz cue guy named “Earl” by chance? See any leg weights, resistance bands or maybe a Taylor Swift bracelet on him? I heard of him, I think.

I may just do this. The patches of course.

I don't want to embarrass myself with the shirt.

What are entry level patches? I just want the basics like one if you can screw your cue together or if you make a ball on the break.

I have quite a few of them patches. I was playing pool for many years, when someone i knew outside of pool ask me to join the team who didn't know how well i played pool.

They put me at the lowest rank possible. the first night playing 8 ball my opponet got to the table twice a bunch or break and runs and leaving safeties. I came in the next week with a few patches and a bump up in ratings to a 5 i was expecting to be maxxed out. 🤣🤣 After a few weeks of the same stuff i was maxxed out in 8 and 9 ball. I had to leave the league a few weeks early i had to have my appendix out and couldn't lean over the table for about a month. I still have the patches and trophy.

A few people i played they had to give me weight, but i've played some of these people for cash and i had to give them weight 🤣

Overall I'm never doing a league again. My team was a bunch of whiny bitches, my opponets were a bunch of whiny bitches and i see a ton of crying online about leagues. I'm good on leagues, i did my time.

I really haven’t minded my league experiences and do APA and USAPL, but I’m not maxed out (nor should I be).

However, the lack of self-awareness from many APA members is hysterical. It shows up primarily with the “better” SL-3’s who think they’re big time now that they’re in a league.

Most of the local SL-6+ players also dabble as dead money and an occasional 3rd place finish in a random local tournament. We know that in reality we suck at this game.
 
It has been many years since I have been trapped by a player using a sneaky ot a cheap looking cue . I used to get my wallet lightened by some stranger who wanted to play some cheap....and using a wallabushka
