Extension shot question

In watching these matches I've noticed that whenever an extension is called, sometimes it starts relatively quickly and other times that green box that says extension doesn't start clicking until the player actually finally gets down to shoot seemingly allowing the player to milk the clock a bit before he's ready to shoot. How about having a 20 second extension start at the moment the play calls for the extension? Just wondering,,,,

Doesn't it start at the end of the normal shot time?

When a player calls an extension, the 20 seconds is added onto whatever time is remaining on the clock.

Soooo.... You want the player to wait until the beeper beeps four times before he calls for the extension. I don't think that will work very well.

Yes, but LSD is proposing that the time left on the clock when the extension is called be cancelled and the extension time be started immediately.

When an extension is called, the player never gets any "extra" time. The total time allowed it the normal shot time plus the time of the extension. Sometimes the time indicator doesn't start moving immediately, but the player is not getting any extra time.

Thanks Bob, this does add some clarity to this. I still would like to see a little less extension time in general, but this at least clears up a couple of things.

I'm for zero extension. You know what you have to do or you wouldn't be there, so do it. Too many players act like they're trying to catch a live Cobra. Lets see now, I need to approach with caution and stroke my snakecatcher tool into the air 6 times. Slow play is why there is a shot clock.

It doesn’t matter when you call for it.. you get and extra 20 seconds.

This is what happens when you make the pockets less than 4 inches. It’s going to slow down play. Players have to be more careful. Maybe you aren’t aware but these guys are playing to eat and keep a roof over their head. So they take it a bit more seriously then you do playing for fun.
