Straight Pool. It's common knowledge that 14.1 teaches you more about playing ALL pool games than any other game, by far. I've won 9 ball matches with shots that people who don't play Straight Pool didn't even know existed.

What other game forces you to 'read the rack'?? Caroms, throws, multi-ball english transfer, killer safeties, and on and on. You want to learn about pool, play 14:1.

You may have a point there. We avoid banks and kicks unless we've blown shape or get played safe. Since banks and kicks are a part of pool, you have a valid point.

I threw 14.1 out for that reason, and proclaimed one pocket and 9ball the best games to play BECAUSE they are not call shot games.

i only play for money and that makes it only one pocket. i havent played any other game except some 8 ball for big cash in a bar
for as long as i can remember.
the only thing i know about fargo is i play only as "far goes" his money.

Hard to gamble at 14:1. By the ball is best, but 9 ball, old school 9 ball was the road player's money game. One pocket took too long in one place.

Even though I really enjoy and have played lots of 1p, I don't think there is a better feeling in pool than playing dialed-in 9 ball. Long runs, letting the stroke out, multi rail position. It just feels great.

This. House rules in my room is 'last pocket' 8 ball. Makes for some really interesting finishes.
