Do carbon fiber cue shafts make custom cues obsolete?

You make a valid point...especially since I'm currently wearing a Sub Date :)

It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out. I think the competitive aspect helps make the cue things a little different....nobody is using a mechanical watch to time races for example...no matter how many Rolex sponsorship signs you may see there. But there is an equal amount of emotional connection to cues as there is to watches I'd say (for people who are into both obviously).

I'll add that for me, I'd much rather play with my custom cues and wood shafts for fun and messing around. But when it comes to serious play, league or tournament play, where making or missing a single ball will have an impact, that is where I'm happy to have my carbon low deflection shafts, extensions, etc. With watches, nothing in my life relies on being accurate to the second or even minute. If my watch is a minute fast or slow my life will go on as normal with absolutely zero impact.
I have a Rolex and multiple other mechanical watches that I wear on a nice night out but I generally wear my apple watch ultra all the time now lol at this point I expect my watch to do more then just give me the day and date lol but I’ll never stop loving mechanical watches. It’s hard to explain and I feel custom made cue butts will be the same.

Same here. there is so much functionality of the Apple Watch, that I find myself wearing it daily for the gym and then wear my Rolex on more special occasions.

there is a lot to appreciate in both pieces of tech in my opinion.

I love my custom cues and I prefer my Cognoscenti when playing 1P...but I also love playing 8/9/10 ball with my Predator BLAK (Revo 12.9). Also tend to wear my Apple Watch instead of my windups...

Little easier to care for and replace the newer stuff (watches, cues, shafts). To each is own...

I went to dinner for new years and as I was driving a way from the house I realized I didn’t put puppy pads out for the dogs (it was raining) and lifted my wrist to say hey siri and remembered I was wearing my date just 😂 damn useless pos 😂

Don't you think switching between wood and CF has an affect on your game? At some point, you will apply X amount of force to either one and the direction of the CB will change (compared to the other) and you will may make the ball, but do you hit it center pocket, to the left, to the right, and what does that do to your leave.

IMHO, if you want to play at your highest level then you need to stick to one or the other.
I do agree and don’t really go back and forth at all, this last week being an exception as I was giving the South West a little more of a test run. Was considering selling it since I’m playing the Predator. Turns out I like it too much so going to try holding onto it

I don't think siri can put puppy pads out.

Put it this way I can tell if someone is using a regular shaft or low deflection by how the ball moves. There are plenty of low deflection wood shafts out there. Low deflection players tend to defy the law of physics with English. It looks unnatural. That’s how good these LD shafts are. A regular shaft moves the ball much more naturally. The ball spins correctly to its path. A ball can be spinning a million different ways while going forward with LD shafts. Use your imagination with a shot and the LD shafts can make it happen.

With the correct tip combination then you can get real creative with shape.

3 most groundbreaking shafts that I’ve played with:

Meucci red dot
Predator 314 no logo
Ignite carbon

Currently I’m on a WX sigma 12.5

There will always be a market for quality and excellent craftsmanship, whether it be a watch, fine suit or shoes, cabinetry, or pool cues.

Strange, I have been shooting best with my 12.75mm wood shaft. I seem to get better feel with wood in my hands in the carbon fiber. Here is the shaft for my Pechauer: https://seyberts.com/products/pechauer-p-lite-jp-series-pool-cue-shafts?variant=41783717462214
I struggle with my shot with a Rogue 12.4 CF shaft. I can't get consistent making shots with it .
Try fixing the balance.

The problem I see people converting to carbon shafts is screwing it on and thinking it is good to go. You have to make sure its not pointing up in your hands. LOL

I mean it is so back heavy that it's throwing off your stroke.

Now I really do feel like a Luddite. I play with an old school maple shaft, plus I don't wear a watch either... not even Rolex nor an Apple watch could change my mind. Well, maybe if I found a Swatch watch like from the 80's or perhaps a sweet Casio with the calculator buttons on the face would persuade me to change my mind on that. I bet I'd be in with the ladies with that damn Casio!

With the right lady and right Casio you might be....there is a whole world of Casio G-Shock collectors out there, they're pretty popular these days!!

I will look into that, thanks.

I think, even though not talked about so much, that one of the reasons so many like the Revo shafts so much, is not just that they are supposedly so low deflection, but also they seem to be weighted heavier than most other carbon shafts.

The rogue is a very heavy shaft. 4+ oz. Other carbons definitely change the balance point backwards, but the rogue shouldnt really. If anything it balance points goes fromt heavy ;)

No excuses now :)
