Wood Identification?

Escott Cues
I tried in the Main forum first. Maybe here will work better. :)

I am working on a conversion cue. It is a Brunswick butterfly from I think the 1930s.

I am trying to identify the reddish brown wood with large pores that makes up the bulk of the cue. It is a very light wood and has a really nice chatoyance with the new finish.

Thanks,
Scott

Nice work, I have a Couple of these to convert also, the colors clean up nicely. I wonder if the wood is "European Beech"

Joey! I think you might be right. That look like the right one. The old catalogs mention mahogany for a lot of the cues. I didn’t see any red mahogany in my searches but that one does match up. Thank you.

Love your work by the way.
Lots of red lauan were exported to the US.
That's a red lauan I think.
It was commonly used for cues.
