Best Playing Cue Builder

your cue is your tool. make it as pretty as you like.
just realize you are adding things as a net negative to value and playing use.

Are you sure about that? Have you done scientific tests with control groups and lab results? Have you played with a cue, then added inlays to that same cue? Did adding those inlays adversely affect your game or did the cue explode after?

I can play with any cue I pick up. Some take 10 minutes and some take a few days to learn. The few days to learn was my Mezz. Low deflection on a soft tip. Need perfect stroke to play with it. I can replicate the 'thunk' sound in the shafts. Anytime I want. It normally doesn't make a "thunk" sound. Must be a Mezz thing.

At this point in pool I just buy the name on the cue and what it looks like. As long as its not some super crazy specs or design.

I want to try a Lambros.

I'll wait till the industry settles into good commuter cues.
Good mileage. Electric. Self shooting and storage.
They call it the "Stroke eze."
My wife woulda loved that!!😎
AI controlled cue w/built in tripod so no bridge hand is necessary. Built in micro dials for selective windage/elevation (English, follow, draw) adjustments on the fly. 4 gig storage w your choice of assistant voice pattern rec - male/female.
Optional 'Critique' setting allows assistant to make recommendations other than those chosen by AI, in case you suck at pattern recognition. Lol.
One of these days, eh??😉
Just shoot me now.😂

That Black Boar was and will like always be the best hitting cue I have played with and I have played with hundreds of them. :) Hope you are well Eric.

DC 💪💪 so good to hear from you.

Yes that cue is just next level, I’ve let every good player use it over the years and most say it’s the all time best hitting cue. SVB wasn’t impressed lol.

That cue is warm and safe. Can’t ever sell it. I did talk to Tony once about spraying it matte black over the clear coat on it, as it’s always felt a bit over the top as a player. But it plays too good not to use.

I’ve played with everything and nothing is close. Except a couple other Boars, but the good one is THE ONE. I bought a lot of cues over years and years to end up there.

I’m not big on the pic thing, but I mite take a couple pics and post them.

Hope ur well DC, my numbers are the same. When I change it coming up-I’ll contact you.

My very very best, to one of the best people in pool.

Fatboy😃

I thought this was going to be who is the best playing cue builder. On how they play pool. The best pool player to ever build cues is Mike Sigel. Current builders is probably Shawn Putnam or Bobby Hunter. Best cue repairman is Fedor Gorst. Although he only works on his own cues with his lathe as far as I know.

A Predator butt with painted points, paired with a Revo shaft.

Yes, I'm serious:)
I have 3 Predator true splice and a Predator SP. All radial. The 3 hit great, the SP is the best hitting cue I've ever played with. I have people try it all the time, most are shocked how well it hits and get offers to buy it right there. Linen wrap, 8 pt rosewood.

I thought the same, “Best playing cue builder”… “Little” Al Romero

For me, the answer to both questions was Bill Schick. He always treated me well, answered the phone when I had questions. Except for one time, he delivered my cue/shafts in a timely manner. The one instance when I didn’t get my shafts back for 8 months, a receipt was included saying N/C. He said that he would always be willing to build a cue for me because I played with mine. I couldn’t ask for more than the cue I already own, so I never ordered one.

I have played with a handful of cues that I would say played as well as my Schick. I’ve never found better.

no each feel is subjective and individual. so the best is what is best to you.

no different than saying what the best pair of athletic shoes are.

So many answers. I’m confused at your question, or you’re sort of asking something else. CNC doesn’t mean 1000 inlays. Inlays doesn’t mean anything to playability.

But here’s some answers that might be confusing:

Tascarella
Dennis Searing
John Showman

come to mind. They all do inlays. No CNCs. All meant to be played.
Dennis doesn't do CNC?

John Showman IMHO makes the best playing cue and the best old school inlay cue - there is NO second place, then there is Dennis and Tascarella(never played a tasc, I'd like to) then there is Barry- new godfather to old school but needs to tighten up inlays(great guy though)

1 Showman
2 Searing
3/4Tascarella & Barry(tie...maybe)

bill stroud was a true pro
jack madden is one
george balabuska played okay
pete margo champ but really didnt make them himself i think.
sailor played well
dk played fine
Try Dennis some if you hate your money, Ted Harris played better than Stroud

What are the shafts on each?

In terms of the shaft or butt?

We got off on the wrong foot in the past.

I just wanted to say I do value your opinion and your knowledge of cues.

We actually need more people like you on the site to inform others. Especially with new influx and popularity of production cues. Production cues that are below par for standards.

Thank you, I've completely forgotten about that and you seem to provide valuable insight on damn near every subject. Cheers

Danny never played on the road unless driving around to the different halls in Maryland is considered being a road player. He was a High B/Low A level player though, loved the game and knew all the halls and players in Maryland well.

He worked in a pool hall and got buzz sawed by a road player called Colorado Slim whose real name was Bill Stroud. Instead of being upset over the loss he looked at it as a business opportunity and offered to “steer” Stroud around the pool halls in Maryland for a percentage. This led to their friendship and eventually the founding of Joss Cues.
Cool story 👍
