Who wouldn't bet on this?

just imagine if you could figure out a way to gimmick this and win even half the time, you might be able to win, say, 30 or 40 dollars before the action was dead for generations.

ill take the heavy one. or the magnetic one. and the one its hard to get action on.

If there are 10 balls then odds of winning are 1 in 10 right? Unless the payout is 10 to 1 you cannot break even over time - but, yes , people would bet on this - perhaps betting high early hoping to cash in and walk away ahead of the odds - rarely happens - but that is what defines the word gambling - a fool’s walk through life.

How about if the house offers, "Choose any ball and any position," and pays 1:1. Any of you math guys want to figure out if the house is winner or loser with that prop?

Offhand it feels like the same odds as which ball wins, but because of the multiple choices there doesn't have to be a winner every race. On the other hand any race can have multiple winners, so maybe 1:1 is correct odds.

Now, what if the house claims either one ball or one position as its own?

I still haven’t figured out why casinos are in business……
