What do you guys think of this estimate?

I got the following estimate on my GC3. What do you guys think?

Assemble table - $600
Recover (including rails) with Simonis 860 - $800
New k55 rubber installed - $650
Cut rail liners to proper angle for new rubber (not sure what this is) - $150
Close pockets to my spec - $250
Replace chrome rail trim (I provide the trim) - $100

I haven't worked with a table mechanic so not sure if these prices are inline.
The price seems a little high to me but it all depends on what area you live in and who is doing the work. There are maybe three or four table mechanics in the country that get that kind of price and people are happy paying it..

I agree with others that the prices seem to be too high. The price for recovering my gold crown 3 with simonis 860 HR cloth was $575. I also replaced the rails and have the pockets cut down to 8 and 3/8, which brought the total up to $900. By the way I live in the Washington DC area.
Wow! These are 1990 prices... I charge almost double that, in the upstate New York area.

Yeah, I guess I should have gone with the original estimate. Tried to save a little money and it didn't work out. Featherstrip sticks up in several places, cloth left loose on several of the rails, pockets finished out different size (1 was 4.5", 1 was 4 3/8", and 2 were 4 1/4"). Two rails were "wavy" where the nose of the cushion was clearly not straight. Now, have to pay someone to fix this. Putting way too much money into this table. :(

Right. But it’s not a night and day difference. If you go to McDonald’s or a chain steak house, the price is almost the same nationwide.

I had an interview for a job in NYC, and the pay was the same as what I was making in Philly. (Same job at similar sized company).

I could see location affecting price 10-15%. But not double. That’s just the worker charging more (which I think is 100% fine).

Vacationed in Cali earlier this year and everything we came across was substantially more expensive than Louisiana. Food, fuel, drinks, you name it. Enjoyed our trip and was one of our favorites that we have taken but man the cost of living there did make a lasting impression on me. Many fast food places these days are independently owned and operated and they can set their own prices.

You should have taken this guy's advice...it was good.

Annoying and frustrating but once it is right...should be good for a loooong time.

Keep the faith!
