I am going to give you a straight answer. Might help, might not.
I once drank to excess, and well past it. I made a lot of money on pool tables because I was using a pool cue to keep from falling. One reason I favored house cues, I was afraid of snapping my cue at the joint as I had seen happen.
I didn't play a lot better or worse hammered, what I did do was play differently. Like most things, once I realized this I studied my playing style drunk and sober. Drunken style was easier and had more potential. Still being quite young I tended to cowboy a bit when sober or mostly sober. When I was drunk and lazy I used the minimum effort required to get out.
After I paid attention to my game for a few weeks, getting drunk purely as a matter of research you understand, or if the sun went down, I realized I would play my best pool if I played the same style as when a sixpack or three into things, sober. I tried it, it worked.
I suggest a designated driver and pay attention to how you play when drinking and sober. If you play better drunk it is probably due to a change in styles. Try to notice stance, stroke, shot speed, everything about your game. It is a myth that anyone has to be drunk to play. May take a little learning but playing sober is more rewarding.
