Which Way Do You Play This Shot?

Red line might be the worst option
I attempted to show how I came to the choice. I even included pictures of my only 2 attempts at that line. I only made one attempt on each of the other 2 and both failed one with a hook and the other a scratch. I am confident that buy ass had nothing to do with my result because in the beginning the red line was my third choice.
May I ask ? How do you reach that conclusion?

If you underhit you're hooked, if you overhit you're left with no shot or a bank not to mention a possible scratch

BTW, it's perfectly ok that we disagree :)

If that’s what you’re comfortable with but two or three diamonds away really doesn’t make a difference to a serious player when the shots are easy no matter pocket size or table length.
On your earlier post you said you wouldn’t float the CB up any further than the spot. That’s 4+ diamonds, over 4 feet away from your OB.

I’m not sure how you define a serious player but I take the game very seriously. I still like to get closer to my OB when the table layout and my skills allow me to do so.

The inaccurate part is the "you". It should be When I. I agree that different styles can both be right, depending on the individual preferences. For me it's just a natural line and when I am in stroke I expect to put whitey on or over a baseball size target landing zone. When struggling a basketball. The red line gives ME enough room. For me to Underhit enough to get behind the 7....I would need to be watching the cute little waitress as I shot. Not to say it has Never happened but. 🤷‍♂️ 😉 The only way I imagine I could reach the far corner involves a cattle prod. Thankfully that's never happened.

OK buddy hall, this conversation is over

You honestly can't see the 5 ball or the side pocket???

Well I see them but have no problem with them. I am speaking from a position of setting the table and trying it all 3 paths. What works best for me may not be best for you. I was hoping you had actually set the table and tried each path.
So I ass you me the Buddy part is Face see shush. Oh well don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. (A personal favorite salutation 😉)

Enjoy being hooked 👍

That's why I do the Kicks Like A Mule drill every morning. I have lost count of balls kicked in for the win.
If you continue taking paths like that, you may want to throw in afternoon sessions also 😁

Also, the fact that you mention "balls kicked in for the win" should tell you you are taking the incorrect path

All I’m saying is that most players get in trouble by trying to get too close to the OB and then getting hooked. If the next shot is a difficult one, cut , bank or whatever I can understand trying to get a diamond or two closer. When the shots are wide open and basically straight in it’s not necessary. Everyone is different and you should play what’s best for you

hey grampa....😂
so you like the red path more than the yellow path
yes??

Whether you take the red or yellow path or even split the difference I wouldn’t float the CB up any further than the spot area. Why even bring the 5 into play, you can stay two diamonds away from the 5 and still have an easy shot on the 3 and stop for the 5 or bring the CB back for the 5 in the side.
That might be fine for a younger player or on a 7’ table, but for us seniors, playing on a 9’ table with tighter pockets, I’m not leaving myself a 3/4 table length shot when I don’t have to. I’m getting my CB closer to the center of the table below the 5 ball, within 2 feet or so of my next OB, not 4+ feet away from it.
i think you are both right.....:)
but tim i have to agree with chris regarding closer is better
the advantage of the yellow path you can get closer and still have an easy cut
i am not a fan of the red line as i think the landing
zone is too tight

I’m sure others like this path, but it’s not on my list.

I’m going low right and staying position without fading obstacles.
Agreed, the margin of error shown on the red line path is extremely small between the 9 ball and the 5 ball.

i think thats a good choice
and depending on how tight the line direct to the 3 is at the table would make me reconsider
@DrCue'sProtege you know i am sometimes not a fan of your posts but this one has generated a reasonable discussion...(y)

Bottom right -- for 2 reasons.
First I avoid all possibility for getting trapped behind balls if my speed/English is a little off.
Second I can roll for the 3B and get shape after the bounce on the bottom rail. That requires a minor back-cut or straightforward with a touch of follow.
Either way, I fade those balls which increases my percentage of keeping the run alive.

you have about a diamond margin of error(red line)
and its about a half tip below stun
IMO
i think from the diagram thats doable
both for you and for cornerman
if it looked too tight at the table
i would also pick low right since the high inside also has to closely navigate traffic

What does that have to do with you being wrong?
Irritation is an old hustler tactic. Just a feeler to see who or what I am speaking with. Your statements continue to seem to be emanating from your anal orifice. You so far have not added any value to this thread. Are you trying out for improv comedy shows. I see only one line quips that seem to intend to inflame. Getting my nostrils flaring is an accomplishment. I am still celebrating my 73rd birthday. I bet you were sitting green when I won my first tournament.
