I’ve pondered doing something with the Fatboy brand/ I did the 10’ tourneys at Derby with Greg and they were fantastic.

I only ask this question because everyone is so hyper sensitive to words these days I don’t want to use a word that will be counterproductive in any marketing campaigns.

So because I’m out of touch with the current parlance of our times. I’m asking everyone here to please answer this. Even if you hate me, that’s ok. Your voice matters more. If you love me, you matter too.

I’m in a spot in my life where I have the time, connections, and other biz related things to turn Fatboy into a brand. A brand which can manufacture, resell, invent new products related to pool for residential and commercial types of applications. Tables, cues, cases, etc etc etc.

I’ve never been on FB in my life or any social media but here. And I’ve been successful on AZB, I feel as though I could be successful on larger platforms. Sure there’s more competition to get clicks, but Fatboy creates good content & id be competitive there. (I just don’t want the personal attention).

However if I were to launch a brand Fatboy or Fatboy’s (something ) is that name cool these days

I’m biased as it’s my nickname and I like it when people call me Fatboy.

Thanks for the feed back

Fatboy<———while not PC , ok possibly the lease PC person, I wouldn’t market a name brand out side the lines. I’m smart enough to play fair and by the rules & norms of society
It's not to me, but I can see how the PC crowd would find it borderline. Too many people just looking for shit to complain about. Keeps them from looking inward if they can project their garbage outward.

I'd guess I'm probably closer to the demographic you're worried about, and I don't think it's offensive.

If you go too bland, with no personality (and no risk), you'd get something pretty forgettable. That's alright for an established brand, but it does nothing to capture interest or build a new brand.

Fatboy feels like it sits in a nice place where it's not really offensive (you're pointing it at yourself), but is distinctive.

But a bit of controversy (within reason) might not be a bad thing, if it got people talking about you.

The atomic bombs were Fat Man and Little Boy, so if you want to reach Japan, maybe worth checking local views.

Create a BRAND and stay with it and I feel the BRAND will identify itself. You have already accomplished that brand here, just have confidence and faith and carry on. There are always gonna be ‘THOSE” that feel threatened. 🫵

Eric,
Never forget this. EVERYONE is offended by something.

However, you have a brand in place and it's a popular brand.
Ask me if a team name being called over a loud speaker "table 2 for Our huge hole is made for your balls" "2 sticks 2 dicks" "I stroke my stick daily" etc.

Your brand is defined, it's a gambling brand, it loves pool, and it appeals to a large audience.
I have a sticker in my shop that reads "Protect The Easily Offended. BAN EVERYTHING"

A show where you're chit chatting around a pool table with different pros and different locations around the world would be fascinating. Let local audiences come watch and ask some questions and the line out the door alone would be worth seeing. Maybe a local plays the pro for a quick set for charity. I'd love to see what different pool halls look like outside the US and how local audiences react to pros.
You've always been unabashedly yourself and your nickname reflects that so I think it makes sense to embrace it. Good luck and sounds like a cool idea!

Nothing wrong with the name. You come across as a very successful person who is humble so that in itself makes me think you will be successful at whatever you choose to do.

To me, the pool Podcasts that I have viewed are pretty boring and too much on the serious side.

If you are thinking about a Podcast it should be fun while while delivering important information. The link below is an example of a trapshooting episode where the best in the world are chatting while having fun and making it interesting for the audience. Not sure if you will understand what they are talking about, but you will get the jive.

Good luck 👍

I used to shoot trap in the early 80’s actually. I’m into guns, always have been a shooter/hunter, I’ll give it a listen for sure.

Thank you for the kind words.

And yes I agree taking anything too serious can suck the fun out of it. Pool in certain settings is very serious, other times it’s not. I’ve always taken pool seriously as a player trying to improve. I do that with everything in life. I like to get better at what I do, going backwards isn’t an option. But that can be accomplished without being serious all the time.

One thing that pisses me off in pool, poker or anything is when someone is tying to sound “smart”, like knowing more about a topic somehow makes them superior to their audience. While knowledge is power, it sure as hell doesn’t make one more important or better than anyone else.

Sharing what you know without coming off as a smart ass is key to creating anything enjoyable for an audience.

Best
Fatboy😃

Agree! As they say in trap ... "never take advice from a guy who can't hit the broad side of a barn with a shotgun." 😆

You have to interview people who know what they are saying and who others will be interested in listening to.

I’d stick to the script and be based around pool, however if there’s something interesting that’s not 100% pool that’s ok too.

Look at Joe Rogan , he’s clearly got it figured out. He’s got a massive audience because he has stuff that appeals to a wide audience. I don’t listen to him often but when I have it’s been interesting and he’s diverse.

The show is good as the guests imo, the presenter/host has to guide the ship, but not over run the guests.

That’s solid advice. About who to take advice from. I’ll listen to most anyone anytime but when someone is a proven success I give what they say a bit more thought.

I’m going to do something with this/ I have the time and am in a spot in life that I can make this work(that I’m certain of).

The word Fat has been associated with pool for years. New York Fats became Minnesota Fats. He was called the Fat man and Fatty as well.
With your name recognition and popularity here and having met you I can see this idea has legs.

I saw your reaction to the nonsense at Pyramid Club which was why so agreed to head down to Red Shoes. You don’t accept BS and are quick to understand it when you see it.

With that in mind and pool actually getting more popular the timing might work
In your favor. Look forward to see what you come up with but Fatboy is a very marketable name. IMO!

i agree with VVP on the current supply of pool podcasts. stephen hendry does some good stuff in snooker, both on youtube and the WST podcast. gets the guests relaxed, probes them a little, and the end result is usually enjoyable. no need to be walter cronkite

"IF" I were you, my brand would be called Orange 5 Productions (O5P). Sounds like a gangster zipcode.
🤘😎💪
I'll accept any finders fee/s you deem acceptable.
😉

How about the brand Ugly Kid, I don't think they faced any troubles with their name (I may be wrong) but it seems to me as long as your brand name isn't directed at customers I see no problem with it.
