Carbon, back to wood...

I’d also be curious to hear of those who’ve gone back to wood is it low deflection wood or traditional?

I made the switch from traditional to carbon low deflection last year and have definitely gotten used to the carbon and think I probably play a little better with it overall.

But…I do miss the feel of a good traditional wood shaft sometimes. And I also find it hard to get excited about my carbon shaft Predator setup compared to the couple nice custom traditional wood shafted cues I own.

There is a part of me that wants to ditch the carbon stuff and play with my Runde or my SW Satin. But then I’ll play a match and hit some shots I know I’d struggle with with those cues and I stick with my carbon setup…for now…

I tried CB shaft didn't like it at all, sold it and back to my original shaft wood just feels better for me.

I like the attitude of everyone who answered. No one felt the need to say something shitty. I would never say carbon fiber plays better. It plays different for sure. If it’s a different you don’t like and you prefer the feel of wood shafts then that’s what you should play with.

Tried Carbon own by friend, I am use to Wood. Saw nothing that I wanted to change for. Maybe I am Old School guy who think Carbon is just latest FAD. Wonder how many Pro are using Carbon because they are getting paid to do so?

Follow the money.

I prefer low deflection. Switched to that many years ago and am well used to it.
I would estimate that my wood shaft deflects a little less than some carbons, and a little more than others. The difference is minor, and adjustments must always be made, since all shafts deflect some.

I got both in one. Mezz Ex Pro. Carbon fiber core in a wood shaft. Very happy with this shaft. With over 50 years of playing with wood I thought going full carbon might be too much for me.

For me it is the tradition and also the natural feeling of playing with wood - if you play enough then you will know where to contact the OB on any shot with any shaft - old time greats are proof of this reality. Common sense tells us that no shaft aims itself .
People seeking perfect pool would need aiming sensors at the pockets, Object balls, CB, and cue tip - I prefer to miss once in a while😁

Whatever you have the most confidence with will affect your game.
Everyone is diff and pool players are no exception. We are the Rule. Lol. You mentioned 2 excellent cues that didn't get the job done on certain shots. If CF allows you to make those, but those 2 cue brands do not, I'm thinking it may have more to do w the mental aspect than actual hit or performance. Just a thot. Not criticizing your game or anything like that. This is what I took from your comment.
"Take what you can use and leave the rest."
My motto.

My game was built around those heavy, old-growth wooden shafts that had a fair amount of deflection. Learned to adjust and play in accordance with it. You could jump w your daily player.
CF Low Def was an eye opener for sure, but I found myself unconsciously aiming for deflection where there was a minimal amount w CF and subsequently missing balls.
I go into a zone (hate that word) whereby my conscious mind is on low and the unconscious takes precedence, leading the charge, so to speak. Those old, ingrained play habits come to the forefront more often in those cases. Had to switch back to maple in order to play at anything close to my old level.

I immediately played better when I switched to the Revo shaft. I’ve gone back to the 314 a few times and didn’t like it. I have to try my older wood shaft some time but I don’t think I’ll ever go back to wood.

I'm 49 and have always used way too much English. The shafts created as many problems as they solved. Last time I stuck with it for 3 months and still went back.
