Restoring wrap advice.

I picked up a p3 from A friend at a great price but after years of almost daily play from him the wrap is terrible. The pictures don’t do it justice how bad it looks . Is there anyway to restore the leather lux wrap. Even if it’s not perfect I’d rather keep the original wrap. if not I’ll have it re-wrapped at the expo coming up.

I'm guessing that's Predator "lux wrap" these disintegrate over time as they are not real leather, but some foam product with a leather like surface. When they get gummy (and they will...) they can't be saved. have it replaced with a real leather wrap.

I get what you’re saying.. it’s not gummy. It’s just has some nasty marks all over it.
 
Try an auto detail brush and some diluted dish washing soap. Scrub away the grime. If really grimy try a magic eraser Towel dry. Then gloss it up with an car interior vinyl/leather conditioner
 
Leather wraps are nice looking, come with various colors. If I remember right, I paid about $200 for a leather wrap. You may be able to get a better deal at the expo, though. If you decide and actually get a leather wrap, show us a picture when it's done.

Last year I was thinking about getting my sp2 leather wrapped and it was going to be $350 to $400 depending on which one I picked
 
The problem with the Predator Luxe wrap is the thickness, about .040" (The Sport wrap is about .070"). It is also longer than the standard leather wrap blank Tiger or I sell, which is 13-5/8" in length. Joe Blackburn and Steve Lomax have the right thickness/ length black Spanish Bull wraps to do the job right. You might want to message Joe in advance so he will have a blank on hand for you at SBE.

The only leather you would have paid that much for, would have been genuine elephant ear, or something similar. You can get beautiful oil tanned, or otherwise Spanish Bull wraps from Martin, also known as @jazznpool here at AZB for under $50 if my memory serves. He has quite an array of wonderful options. The issue you will run into more times than not, is the depth of the wrap groove, and the length of the wrap, which should be easily handled by any competent Cue-Maker, or repair person.

Do not quite know how this works with pool cues but I can get leather wraps for golf clubs for $30 (I think after Arnold Palmer died, I am the only person in the world still using leather for golf grips, lol) - maybe worth looking into?

I played with cork wrap on a Ned Morris merry widow I bought new in 2002. I love the feel of it. The problem is cork or cork/rubber doesn’t look good on many cues. Tad used it for some Martin style maple merry widow cues.
