Wrap fixture question

So I see the magic wrap fixtures for roughly $650. Chris Hightower has one for half that. Anybody experienced the real difference?

I believe Hightower's is meant to as an add-on to his lathe, not a standalone fixture.

I only have the experience with the "magic wrap" and it works great "if" you learn how to use it.
I've watched a number of different ways to apply the wrap using it but as usual have figured out my own way to cut the leather complete, seam included, to fit the groove before adding any glue.

Get one now at 650....like everything else they're only going to go up. That's double what I paid when I got mine. Trust me, they are not coming down in price. You may get lucky and find someone selling a used one for a few dollars less but go back and look at how many have come up on the secondary market.

Not the same thing. The wrap magic is amazing but I had t make my own template measuring tool.
Are you talking about the length of the wrap channel? The fixture used to come with a template to make your concave and convex end cuts.
I use a steel mm rule to find the length of mine.
My wrap channel is generally 12 inch long and a 12mm rule is shorter. Mark the first 12mm with a razor and measure what is left over.

Yes I made the channel measuring tool. Simple but it works.
I first used a plastic ruler and cut it to adjust like a slide rule. Then I made the white one which is easier to use.
(note that I was some thick scrap leather I was practicing with on a broken cue.)
