Trigger Finger……….Has Anyone Ever Had This Medical Problem?

Pick me , I've got it in both hands depending on the weather and atmospheric pressure I swear , I maybe wrong but if I remember correctly trigger finger is a first cousin to arthritis and gout .

When I was taking meds for the gout my trigger finger wasn't as big of a problem .
Yes it's painful but it's also fun when you can get someone to grab a hold of the effected finger and hold it while they straighten it out ha ha and then watch their reaction !

Former work associate developed 'trigger finger' on his dominate hand, index finger. Injections and physical therapy... Based on his complaining about discomfort. I'd hazard a guess that it does the trick for a handful of months at best, then returns. I did ask at one time about surgery. I guess it's an option for severe cases but the docs discourage it.

The intersection between the conditions is inflammation. That is in fact the most common cause of disease anyway.

That's why the meds for one condition helped the other.

But meds are always second in priority beyond lifestyle management. Diet, exercise, etc. are primary.

As for over the counter stuff, like ibuprofen and acetaminophen, if you need or use them regularly, best to talk to your doctor.

Has anyone had a medical malady called trigger finger? It started 2 months ago out of the wild blue yonder without
any warning signs. It is on my bridge hand and it is worsening and very painful. I have an appointment to see a hand
surgeon for evaluation and my primary physician indicated surgery is the most likely course of action because it is now
affecting my original finger and two more are showing the same symptoms. The initial course of action will probably be corticosteroid injection which is basically preliminary to requesting surgery.

How this came about seems like a total mystery but it is real, very painful and my finger gets locked up in a bent position
that I have to move back straight and doing that hurts a great deal. So right now I am taping my middle and ring fingers together on my bridge hand so that they remain straight and it does affect my bridge but it’s either that or I can’t play for very long due to painful hand positions……It really sucks.

So if anyone has suffered with this medical condition referred to as trigger finger, I’d appreciate any comments about what you did and how you are faring? It’s apparently caused by scar tissue buildup in a hand tendon sheath but I’ve never injured my left hand, only my right one. I still can’t figure out what caused this and don’t see the hand surgeon until the first week of April. It is a bizarre problem I never heard of.

I had it on my ring finger of my left hand in my early 30's. Docs first recommendation was PT, went to maybe 2 appointments, all they did was work my finger and massage the area. They suggested that I do the same at home under warm water. i probably did that for a week at most until I got bored with it. It eventually went away on its own and never returned, I guess I got lucky. They did talk about surgery.
