Are the new Tariffs on Goods from China going to affect prices on Pool cues?

I tried researching this question, and I have tried doing research on this topic, but I can't find any answers.

This Tarrif thing is so confusing, and I am very confused about just how much the Tariffs might increase pool cue prices, on cues from China.

I have learned that Tarif tax depends on the type of goods being imported. But, I have not found a category for Pool Cues. All of the Categories are for other types of items. Please forgive my ignorance about this.

And, what if I were to find a used pool cue from a seller in China. Would the new Tariffs effect me, if it were a low cost cue, like in the $500 range for example?

Does anyone happen to know what the Tarif tax would be on a used (if that makes any difference) pool cue from China, and would it even matter if that cue was not made in China? Like, for example, a seller in China that had a US Custom cue for sale? Like for example a Nitti custom cue, from a Chinese seller? Would that make any difference? And, lol, I understand that the price would not be $500 if it were a Nitti. Just making an example.

Thanks for any thoughts / info on these very confusing (to me) Tarifs on Goods from China, and how they will affect the pool cue market, of cues from China.

Thanks again for any thoughts.
I'm sure there will be some higher prices, that happens every time somebody sneezes. But I won't be buying a Pool Cue made in China, when I can get a good one here...

Many years ago when it was the heart of TV's and PC's there wasn't a CRT made in the US!

Likely not common knowledge but HP made CRTs in Colorado Springs (their network at the time was made in Saskatoon, Canada by the company I worked for). Granted they were for oscilloscopes etc., but they were CRTs nonetheless.

there are lots of other countries capable of making products that now cant compete with china and its slave labor.
those countries are being held back from advancing and then also doing more business with the u.s.
leaving us to be dependent on one source for much of our goods.

my colleague who left china a decade ago says that wages have gone up by an insane amount the past decade. i was surprised by her numbers. what google says:

As of 2024, the average salary in Mainland China is above ¥350,000, which equates to approximately $50,400 USD per year (pre-tax).

here's the wage trend in this decade, which probably is unique in the world:

so there are definitely countries that can compete. i would think indonesia, pakistan, philippines, vietnam all have cheaper labor at the moment. but china has infrastructure and stability that these countries don't have when it comes to outsourcing, and still fairly cheap labor of course.

It is wild to me reading this thread and finding that a lot of you really do think that China is only just the propagandized stereotypes you hear on the news and word of mouth. It’s also wild that we think that we are too savvy to be victimized by propaganda.
Milk is a great example. Read about the WW2 backlash from farmers, and now go find another country that drinks milk during dinner with a steak.
We get it. You're trying to push your product on us.

Dust hasn't settled yet, hard to believe these 100 days of Trump.

This will cause all cues to go up , not just Chinese. American made will raise their prices. Most already have. The 500 to 700 merry widow is no 1500 to 1800. That's still not enough tho. Jazznpool for example has raised his prices several hundred more as of late. At least that's my observation. Deals are hard to find.

I have a very small business making custom consumer electronic hardware, including stuff for pool and billiards. It is a side hustle but helps put a dent in my mortgage and was helpful for paying off my student debt and accumulating a 20% down payment on a house. I don’t have any debt except for my mortgage for the first time in my life, and I’m 42. I did everything right, I was just born during a terrible economic generation without rich parents. This helped me break even.

All of my molds and manufacturing supply chains are set up in Shenzhen, one of the best campuses in the world for tech. But because of a hemorrhoidic cheeto with a geriatric world view I have to almost stop my business. Those with cheeto residue on their fingers don’t understand that transferring to the US isn’t an option, and lack of sympathy based on national pride makes me want to drop kick humble pie down American throats.

I’ll note that this is temporary, and I am not worried.
I wish you all the best. The same group of geriatrics that tout “hard work pays off” are the ones who think what’s happening is a good thing. It’s more spiteful ignorance than anything.

I hope you come out on top.

Hard for me to believe this is temporary. If the country wakes up tomorrow with a come to Jesus moment I still don’t think we can roll things back to a point where the people can come out on top of the massive amounts of artificial inflation built on one man’s ego.

Hell yeah. I know I would hate to pay 125% less for the everyday shit I buy from Amazon.

More than anything bro. I really want to pay more for car parts. Need a 10 dollar latch for my Ford for 24 bucks. That’s winning. 3 dollar light switch cover from Home Depot that is now 7 dollar. Take my money baby.

While we’re at it. When I need a new vehicle I would absolutely hate to think about how much less I’d pay if literally anyone but Trump were in office. The more I pay the better off billionaires are. I love those guys.

Thank the sweet baby Jesus I can pay more for the betterment of literally no one in the real world.

Viva higher prices!!!

You probably need a better job if you are complaining about those items.

You're complaining about $34 in total for something you are buying like once in a lifetime. LOL

I can't remember the last time I bought a light switch or a latch for a pickup and I've had 3 in the past. The same goes for cars. Don't act like you are buying a new car every month and its going to hurt your pockets. The average person keeps their vehicles for at least 6 years before the next generation model comes out.

The ONLY time anyone should be arguing over high prices are things we spend on a monthly and weekly basis such as our utilities, food and gas. If we're getting these items overseas then its pretty much a shame.

This is a great example. High prices are okay. Just accept it. No one should be arguing over higher prices 🙄.

Here have a warm glass of koolaid.

$34 LOL

Someone at home gave you the yellow kool aid for being cheap.

We're talking pool stuff and you're bringing up light switches and latches. DIY forums is a quick search.

anything that is essential we get over seas that we cant get here is bad.

That is it in a nutshell! Bad enough if we have to get raw materials from overseas but we can stockpile some. Too, sometimes it is a good move to use up other people's resources while hoarding our own for future use. However, we should be able to do all processing and manufacturing here in the US. I thought it was funny when Iran was flying our fighter jets. They went to war with us and were having to cannibalize some jets to keep others in the air because we weren't going to supply them parts and components to fight us with!

Not many years later we built a jet in cooperation with japan. We couldn't build the controls in the US! We don't expect to go to war with japan, very unlikely. Get into a war that japan doesn't approve of, far more likely. I think that project went through but I also think it caused enough uproar that such deals weren't repeated or went out of style pretty rapidly.

In WWII we were able to quickly convert to wartime manufacturing. We need to keep that capability. As individuals we need a certain level of self-reliance, as a country too.

I guess you failed to grasp my arguments. High value is in the eye of the beholder. And when there is only one place to source it from, high value means nothing.

My Japanese car is high value. My Chinese TVs are high value. My mostly-Taiwanese apple devices are high value. And good thing, because I can't buy those things anywhere else, and manufacturing them in the US 15 years down the road for 3x the price is no longer high value for me.

But yeah, typical of people who have zero critical thinking skills and merely regurgitate what Fox news and Facebook tells them to. Our educational system is obviously gone, because there is no one left with critical thinking skills.
Without tariffs the US would have never risen to be the dominate commercial power in the world.

We would have been treated like a colony who provided commodities and resources .

The UK would have been content to destroy our nascent manufacturing base.

Alexander Hamilton one of the brightest folks in American history was an economic nationalist.

Right behind slavery the tariff was one of the biggest reasons for the Civil war as the South hated them.

Lincoln was an economic nationalist.

It was the progressives that believed in free trade.

The US won World War Two but then lost the peace as it tore down the tariff walls and allowed unfettered access to our markets.

I think $50,000 USD a year might be optimistic
I looked it up and found :

China's official minimum wage in 2025 ranges from 1,690 to 2,690 yuan per month, equivalent to 235 to 375 U.S. dollars

China's National Bureau of Statistics and MHRSS, the average salary in China in 2025 (in urban areas) is 120,698 yuan per year $16,600) or 10,060 yuan per month ($1,385).

I don’t think anyone is against tariffs altogether. It’s the implementation and how it’s being used in this market.

For example had we built up manufacturing here first, started production and then wanted to use tariffs to steer our economy back into itself I would see no problem with that.

Infrastructure first. Then tariffs.

At this point we’re just paying a tax with nothing to show for it.

If there is no incentive to bring manufacturing back how would " we " build up manufacturing?

That’s a reach even for you. I don’t need to be desperate and homeless to want shelter. We don’t need to run our economy into the ground and have the working class carry the burden of this tax so our government can find motivation for manufacturing.

We don’t need a tariff to create manufacturing.

The chip manufacturing that was planned for Austin and I think a few other areas would have been a good example. Build the factory, make the product, level off the demand against imports.

Then apply a tariff to drive the market locally because it’s cheaper and requires less shipping.

You know this is a common path taken.

To rephrase. You’re suggesting that it’s a good thing to tax the working class (125% in some cases) as a means to motivate the upper wealth to create manufacturing. 😂.

Had our government outright said they were going to tax the piss out of the working class to see if it motivates people to create manufacturing you’d be pissed. So would most people.

The way this whole thing is being pitched to people is ridiculous. It also exposes the ones dumb enough to actually argue on behalf of higher prices.

You guys voted for less inflation and a more reasonable cost of living. Now you’re defending a massive tax and telling people they should be spending less and happy to pay more.
