UK Open 2025 Telford, UK, May 6-11

Very nice to see "new" names at the later stages. And all have won something before, except Tyler S.... After the win over Filler, can he do it?
Souto is playing with a McDermott cue, the US have some presence even among european players.
Styer played on two winning Mosconi Cup teams. His biggest individual wins I know about are the Kremlin Cup in 2019 and the Texas Open in 2023.

i wouldn't rely on fargorate here. its failure to account for improved players with a big backlog is a flaw. mickey has played 810+ level pool for a year now. souto and tyler both obviously has performed at a similar level this week (souto also won the TAOM open some weeks ago). ok, yapp knows how to win a final with this kind of prize money, but he's never won a MR produced major

Yes, you are correct, but the 2024 International 9ball, with a $40,000 first prize, paid more than most of the Matchroom majors in 2024, and with a huge, elite field, it felt like a major. It had a much tougher field than the 2025 UK Open. As importantly, it was just six months ago. Yapp seems the man in form to me but he's plenty beatable, as everyone who reaches Day 6 at a Matchroom major is in stroke.

I think the guy that's under the radar here is Jonas Souto, who was the 2019 World Junior 9ball Champion. Perhaps he is about to live up to all the promise he showed as a junior.

In 2025, he has already won both the Seattle Open and the Helsinki Open and his form seems very strong right now. In the round of 32, Jonas beat Mario He (Fargo 812) by 10-3. On paper, Jonas is not one of the favorites here, but a strong performance tomorrow would not surprise me at all and I wish him the best.
👏👏

Doe WNTTV let me watch previous matches from this tournament? Or only live?
Yes we've been uploading all the matches from the last 16 onwards on demand for WNT TV members - all matches from table one from the start of the event have been uploaded too. Selected matches from T2 and T3 have also been uploaded (from double elimination phase) - and we will follow up with the rest soon.

thanks for interacting. any solution to the rewinding in live matches? also not being able to cast to tv from phone / tablet is quite annoying

i think souto will crumble in semi or final.. he's a hothead and first major final day for him, the spanish nerves will get the better of him 😉

yapp or tyler wins

We've raised this with our tech team as this feature has been rolled out across the site so unsure why it isn't available right now. Casting should also work to smart tvs already.

Fargo vs form? Fargo says Yapp, and he is a good choice because he is in form too.

But Yapp is a nervous Nellie at times. Needed a big comeback in the Scottish semis and got crushed by Krause in the finals.

Krause is in good form, too, but he was sloppy vs Patrick. Some poor decisions.

Souto is in the best form and has had the best break. But his safety play has been just okay. Still, he is becoming one of the best shot makers in the game.

Styer has been stellar, but he babies some shots and his game winning ball vs Wilenski was almost a big mistake. You could almost hear JJ say ‘what the f—‘.

Then there’s nerves. Someone always shows them in a MR final day event. Just saw it with Souto in the first rack, but he recovered.

I predicted Souto. Sticking with it, but hoping for Tyler.

While I agree with you we should not rely on Fargo Rating for semifinals and finals in a tournament [the reason we PLAY the tournament is because we DON'T know the outcome ;-)], there is not some significant lag or whatever in player ratings. It is not true Mickey has been playing at 810 speed for the last year. If he was, he's be over 800 now.

Mickey and Tyler have been on a similar trajectory. They have performance ratings over the last year for nearly 2,000 games of 793 and 794, and both have gone up in rating about 10 points, from near 780 to near 790 in that time.

Contrast that with Capito, Kledio, Jonas, and Moritz. The four had an average Fargo Rating a year ago of 788 (much like Mickey and Tyler had). Their average performance rating for the last year is 817, and their Fargo Ratings have increased to an average of 806.

Nice to see how loose these pockets are playing. Whatever they measure, the eye test says that these tables are playing a lot looser than we've come to expect at the Matchroom produced events. Perhaps it is something to do with arena conditions, but it is making the pool more exciting to watch.

Casting works. Amazon Silk browser works too now.

I’ve made this point before but I will make it again. The full table streams should be available on demand for at least a day or two, at least table one and two. Many fans can’t watch live if they are working. That’s what DAZN did, and YouTube carried full Matchroom streams even longer.

As mentioned, the 3-hour buffer and ability to rewind are essential.

Good to see more table 2-3 matches being made available on demand, though. The Feijin-Wilenski match was one of the best of the tournament.
