Is this case made of REAL leather?

Lots of cases posted for sale used on ebay and other places are in fact some kind of vinyl but called "real leather".

People commonly don't know and just assume. I see the same with Harley seats.

I am 97.369% sure that case is not leather.

I'll take the other 2.631 %

To be fair, there are so many kinds of leather, and so many kinds of synthetic, sometimes you have to look very carefully.

The topic of the various leathers and the terms associated with them has been covered. JB contributed a lot.

For example "genuine leather" refers to a category of leather that is made from real animal hide, but it's generally considered to be lower quality compared to full-grain or top-grain leather. While it is real leather, it often comes from the inner layers of the hide, which are less durable and may have been treated with coatings or dyes to improve their appearance according to some leather goods manufacturers. Then there are the terms "real leather" and "leather product". Some "leather" is made from leather fibers but is reconstituted and not actually an animal hide.

I personally am a fan of oil tanned leather and if having a case made, that is what it would be, like good motorcycle boot leather. I am not a big fan of tooling or veg tanned leather, though it does have a place in things that I own.

If looking at synthetic cases, I would be looking at cordura type nylon instead of vinyl by a huge margin. I could see someone building one out of black "ballistic" nylon with Molle loops for accessory pouches, straps, handles, etc. You could make a whole line of modular cases and accessories this way. I am surprised nobody has. JB could build you a custom order like that I am sure.

If the back isn't lined, checked for exposed leather (suede). Pleather melts when exposed to flame.

Do you mean like the 3-Sec cases?

I have a ragged JB case; I'm not sure how much I like the nylon/polyester material that makes the exterior. I do understand that it is probably more rugged and weatherproof (although the zippers aren't), but it does feel a bit cheap—OK for the everyday player but not for the fancy custom (and who needs that much protection for the everyday player?).

Leather is nice but heavy and expensive; it's nice to have a fancy one for the fancy cue in the collection.

High-quality vinyl can look great, will be durable, is cheaper than leather, and is lighter.

I still have the original Predator case that was made by Instroke (in JB dayz). I got the vinyl version of it, and I still love it and use it often. This case is everything a case should be; only the pouches need updating for longer jump cue butts and extensions. A 3x5 version would be great (I think I saw years ago Bustamante with a 3x5 prototype that was never sold to the public).

Not Black, but I know I've seen a black version. You can also send him the material you want, and if it will work he will make it.

The OP's case is a common one I've seen a lot. Recently on marketplace $15.

Yup! 👍

I would like one in black.

Urban tactical.

I'm not hiding in the woods.

What I was saying is that a line of modular cases could be marketed. Not custom, production. Could be a thing.

Cool!

Nothing wrong with vinyl. I have vinyl cases. The case I strap to my Harley is vinyl.

I just really dig leather.

Yes, leather is expensive. Really good leather can be very expensive.

I have a Talisman 3x5 leather, nice case but very heavy and again not that suitalbe for today's player needs .... he stopped making cases, it's the middle one in the photo.
My main cases are the Predator/Instroke (the new one is crap) and JB. The Katana 2x2 is cool just for a night out and I don't want to stand out too much... The rest are for storage.

I wouldn't mind getting a new leather case and I like JB's options for customization, but I would prefer instroke style tubes internal

I once bought a really cool leather jacket in Florence. I was scared it was fake leather. We then went to the orphanage/leather school (Scuola del Cuoio) and we were given a demonstration by a leather smith. I asked him if my jacket was real, he said "This is lamb skin, we eat this meat. It would cost more to make fake leather." I loved that jacket, it was very soft and always stayed in great condition.
Side story: A lot of the US sends their animal hides to Italy to be tanned according to the guy on the tour.

(They did not have a cue case.....)

A $2000 butt with Revo shaft deserve better.
That's funny...when I went through my collection recently I opened a Fellini case and found a Taiwan made cue. LOL!

And then I found a Russ Espiritu cue with two shafts in a cheap Chinese box case.

What fool perpetrated this?

That situation has been rectified.
