turn down shaft or buy new LD shaft?

I have 2 Barnhart shafts that are a full 13mm and 4ozs. I'm used to playing with a Z3 shaft so they deflect quite a bit more than im used to.

Do you think having one of the shafts turned down to 11.8mm would result in deflection similar to a Z3? or should i just go ahead and buy a Z3 shaft?

The only reason I'm considering the turn down is to keep matching rings and i hate shaft logos that come on predator shafts.

Thanks

A turned down standard shaft will not be as low deflection as a Z3. So if you want that, get a Z3.

Turning down a shaft will get it to feel more similar just based on diameter and it will be somewhat lower deflection due to the lower end mass, but not to the degree you'd see by using a Z3.

You can send him a Z3 blank and have him add the rings and leave off the logo. Or send him an existing shaft and do the same. Or have another cue maker do the same, some are able to replicate the rings.

Turning down your Barnhart shaft(s) will likely impact your ability to sell them later should you choose to do so.

I’d buy the Z3 if that’s what you want. I would think the shaft could be refinished to remove the logo. Matching rings would be minimally important for me.

I agree with all that has been said above.
Sell the shafts that you don’t need and get the one you want.

To approximate the Z3’s squirt you’d need to also hollow out the tip end like Pred does.

My fave collectable. I turned both shafts down. One was 13 that I had turned down to 12. I hate it. Other was 14 turned to 13. Should have left both alone.

I know from experience that predator does not reccomend turning down a shaft past 12.25mm, Just saying another brand might have the same issue

Tiger makes a nice 12mm shaft, you can buy that as a partial and have your preferred cue maker install rings, thread and finish it. A superior shaft in every way to Predator Z if you ask me..

Does “every way” include less CB deflection (squirt)?

Yes it's a low deflection shaft, but they have done it in a sensible way, so the shaft doesn't have the same issues as Predator Z/314 and OB shafts have where you hollow out the shafts so much and put on flimsy ferrules that tend to break or crack all the time. As a bonus you get a shaft with a better feel. Hollowed out shafts tend to feel more dead imo.
