Pronunciation of "Gorst'

Phil Yates on commentary apologizing for mispronouncing Fedor’s name all this time after reading AZB and then asking Fedor. 🤣
Then he proceeds to keep doing it, over and over, lol. At least he is trying.

I didn't hear a peep about snooker or snooker players from him today, maybe there is hope.

This is of zero significance and even less interest, unless you're sick of hearing that Matchroom Brit refer to Fedor as though his name rhymes with borscht (the food). There is a consonant in Russian that sounds exactly like our "sh" sound, but it doesn't occur in the Russian spelling of Gorst. It's Gorst like it looks, with a weird little aspiration on the "t" that English speakers wouldn't hear anyway. C'mon Matchroom. Howard Cosell could do better.
You did it! At the beginning of Gorst/Atencio today, he actually noted the thread on AZB and apologized for getting it wrong and vowed to work to never say it wrong again.

His first name is also not pronounced correctly. Its something like Fyodor, not Fedor, same like Dostoevsky. Original name is:

Фёдор Горст

where "ё" is read like "yo"

But, I am not sure how he would feel about it, cause he's american now :)

The correct pronunciation of the first name is more interesting:

One of my clients many moons ago handled MMA fighting championships around the world. Fedor Emelianenko aka "The Last Emperor" was heralded as the best. In fact, Joe Rogan was a commentator from time to time.

The correct pronunciation of Fedor is emphasis on the second syllable like Feh-DOOR, similar pronunciation as Fedora hat without the third syllable.

It's not FEH-der or FAY-der or FAY-door, though these are American pronunciations. But it's Feh-DOOR.

However, then there's this:

Emelianenko looks so chubby and out of shape in the ring, yet he always seemed to rise to the top. I followed him for a while, his personal life. Interestingly, he was born in Ukraine and now lives in Russia. I also worked on a fight that his brother Alexander was in.

Ivan, depicted on the left, got into fighting at 35 years old. Fedor stated that he is no longer in contact with his brother, Alexander, and considers him dead to him after his conviction of sexual assault.

Back to Fedor Gorst, I have been wondering if he and Kristina are still together. She was present when he beat SVB at the $100,000 challenge match, but I have not seen them together in a long while. Being a professional pool player, both of them, it must be difficult to balance life and work and maintain a romance.
