deflection

You have to fine tune your aim to include deflection, but it's never useful, always an added complication. Aiming would always be easier without it.

Argumetative but consider this, you have not just one quantifiable skew but a continuous range of skew per the results you desire. And, taking into account the dynamic interactivity of shot making, a lot of options.
Frinstance, say you have lots of slack on the cueball landing but you have difficulty getting your stick into a comfortable position - ball in the way or anything else, chair, pocket liner etc... While you're trying to cinch this shot, you'll automatically be weighing your "is this gonna go?" senses. Chances are if you need english you'll be fiddling with the amount.

Yep - assuming maximum tip offset for Tennesseejoe's shot, it indicates a pivot point about 4" from the tip.

This was before I knew anything about 'pivot point'. But it started to come together. It was about the time Bob Meucci was promoting 'Zero Deflection'. He had a table set up at Starcher Billiards in Akron, Ohio, for the Ohio Open Championship to prove it. I, as others, could not comprehend it but realized years later how important it was. I was surrounded by old school doubters who did not believe it. Since they were much better players than I was...I agreed and thought it was just a film of 'marketing smoke'. As my mother often said "It is too late in life, we learn so much'.

no one alive lol ok Mosconi came to york and got destroyed by a local player until he was warned that wasn’t physically in his best interest to win . I promise you like everyone mosconi lost plenty. he wasn’t a god

You’re just another old guy who refuses to believe technology can’t make anything better. You know the game was played without chalk at one time to.. and then someone invented it and put it on a tip and I’m sure old closed minded people like you stomped their feet and through a fit. Lol. All the pros you ever talked to never talked about low deflection BECAUSE THEY NEVER HEARD OF IT UNTIL PREDATOR DISCOVERED IT 😂 how could they talk about something that no one knew existed smart guy 😂
I’m sure someone else will pick a couple nits with your post.

Chalk pre-dates tips.

Deflection was known long before Predator existed.

Pat's point is that you can always point your stick in the direction that's needed for the shot regardless of how much squirt the stick has. And it's easier to get to the right direction if there's less squirt.
Yeah I know - been squirted on this very same point. lol. But why would there be a difficulty range on the amount of deflection? High deflection is just as consistent as low deflection. And the higher the deflection the more likely the entire shot will be in your field of vision.

…why would there be a difficulty range on the amount of deflection?
Think of it as shooting a rifle in a crosswind - the stronger the wind the larger the range of estimation needed - the larger the range of estimation the larger the potential miss.

High deflection is just as consistent as low deflection.
But we aren’t as consistently accurate with it.

And the higher the deflection the more likely the entire shot will be in your field of vision.
Huh?

Was the game played without chalk at one time? That fact has nothing to do with chalk pre-dating tips.

Yes people who played the game picked up on the fact that off center hits made the cue ball move to one side or the other.

If they knew how to solve that problem, it would’ve been done long before Predator came around.

Then at that time, it was really talked about and still is to this day.
