2025 Reyes Cup, Oct 16-19, Manilla. Team Asia vs Team World

Shaw said during the presser he was expecting the crowd to be more rowdy/into it but it’s just not there yet.

It does seem like the location needs to rotate… the crowds have been very small the first two days.
That's a shame. Team Asia's wonderful play alone should attract a lot of attention here. I doubt people are staying away because the play of Team ROW has been so substandard, although perhaps this merciless massacre was foreseeable.

There's no country that's more into pool than the Philippines. I can't fathom why they are not showing up in droves to support their own. I'm sure the Matchroom arena and administration of the tournament are first rate as always.

Thanks to the shortening of the sessions to this point, the Reyes Cup probably will not end tomorrow, so the Philippines-based fans can still stop in. Hope they choose to do so.

We should get a better sense of whether Manilla really is a "pool fans" mecca, as a opposed to a pool mecca, from attendance at the Philippines Open. There will be tons of Pinoy players in the 128-player field.

If the event turns out well, it will be back. If not, WNT will drop it and look elsewhere. The Florida Open and the Hanoi Open are the templates.

Still surprised WNT hasn't tried to stage a big mainland China event.

Agreed 100%. I am hopeful that the fans will come out in droves for the Philippines Open, which I believe will remind us just how deep the talent pool is in the Philippines.

Find the ticket prices then cross reference how much the locals make

I want the same YT stream for the Mosconi.
The only difference is US fans want to watch the MC.
Are we the only ones MR wants to squeeze for every penny?
Or, will we see the same treatment given to the MC this year?

ETA Apologies if this has been covered.
I just tuned in two pages ago.

The Filipinos could go down the street to the nearest pool hall and see better action than this staged contest and they won't even have to pay.
The Phillipines Open might only draw crowds from the quarterfinals. Will the players that were sidelined (SVB, Filler, Kos, Oi, Robbie etc.) be there? That would make the Open more interesting.

I have been watching the hilites of the matching on utube,
Asia playing great, AND getting good rolls too....
ROW Also playing good , but missing makeable shots,
and not getting good rolls
Hopefully they will put some wins on the scoreboard,
next year send Filler and Oscar in,

High ticket prices!

Day Two

They start again with a team match. Interesting, different than MC. The players on both teams look more comfortable with the table today and the level of play is higher. Good match and Asia pulls it out 5-4, thanks to a terrific run out by Manas. They extend their lead to 5-0.

Next match, Gorst vs. Star Boy. Its a must win match for ROW. This is the best match so far, with excellent play by both. Gorst makes a good run out in game one, then the kid makes the nine on the break. Gorst is at his best, clearing the balls off in orderly fashion. Meanwhile Manas is matching him shot for shot, running racks with comfort and confidence. This kid can play!

It reaches 4-4 and the final game is unlike every other game before. Lots of twists and turns with both players having chances. Some good safety play and the kid holds his own against the far more experienced Gorst. He wins the safety battle on the one ball, and has a clear path to victory.

For the first time Manas looks under pressure and hangs the four ball, handing the game and match to Gorst. Fedor does his thing and it looks like smooth sailing from here. And then he's shooting the six ball and leans across the table over the seven ball. Suddenly the ref cries out Foul! Fedor's shirt has touched the seven. Everyone is in shock! AJ wastes no time in finishing him off 5-4.

For all intents and purposes it's over for ROW. 6-0 and the wind is out of their sails. They look like toast now.

The final doubles match only puts an exclamation point on it. 7-0 and out of mercy they put an end to the proceedings for the night. Team ROW must retreat to lick their wounds.

A comeback of any kind seems out of the question now.

What really annoyed me today.

ROW down 5-0 and Fedor has just potted the 9 and gone level with AJ Manas at 4-4.

Skyler comes over and they start joking around and watching a video on the phone.

Fedor should be focused, not joking around before the break on hill-hill.

ROW are treating this like a holiday camp, and that stems from JJ (coach).
Right on all counts. I saw JJ with this big smile on his face and thought WTH is with that, the most important moment in the match. Unlike some on here I feel good coaching can make a difference. I coached some damn good players and got them over the finish line.

The arena is also not conducive to spectating pool. Not many close seats. I have VIP tickets and I'm still farther away than any other pool event I've ever attended. Most remotely reasonable seats are taken. Anyone else attending would need binoculars.
