I have played with wood shafts from my introduction to pool the summer of ‘61.
Of course, initially it was because the cues I played with were one piece pool cues.
But I was just a young teenager and really had no other options at my age back then.
As soon as I could get my first two piece cue that was a Palmer, nothing changed in
terms of the shaft I played with that was maple and it’s remained that way ever since.
Kielwood shafts weren’t around until recently and I’ve learned these shafts play better.
If I had my druthers, all my shafts would be Kielwood as long as the shaft specs remain
the same. I found out that’s a bigger challenge than you’d imagine but it is important to
do for the best results. Try to replicate what you like & play with but in a Kielwood shaft.

I imagine pros barking at fans who inquire, what cue is in your hands? what tip are you using? what chalk?, etc...

Yep. That and the fact that no one has explained what having a list of wood shaft users is supposed to accomplish. My only guess is that you have certain wood shaft users that hate even the idea of carbon fiber(or any other non-celluoid material) and that having this list is some sort of security blanket/teddy-bear validating their shaft choice.
There’s nothing like a good piece of hickory
Hickory might work great for an axe handle as Clint showed us can be a useful weapon in a fight.
Anyway, aside from self defense purposes, I just don’t recall seeing many Hickory pool cue shafts.

Best advice I was ever given; "play with whatever makes play more".
Change can either be the hardest thing to do or acknowledge and it can also be the easiest to do.
What determines how difficult or simple accomplishing change depends on how slight or severe the
change actually is and whether any alternative is any better? The longer you do something the same
way, making a switch to something very different becomes more challenging since it’s replacing a habit.
Anyone that plays a certain cue brand or type shaft because they have a crush on some pro player that
uses it has some juvenile traits they never grew out of. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn they had posters
of their favorite players hanging on the walls where they live. OMG, it’s pretty lame and immature behavior.
The only thing that should matter is what you think and so just take the time to figure it out and decide what
you like and stick with it. If you can’t do that on your own, then what cue or shaft you use doesn’t matter a
tinkers dam. You’ll just proceed in the dark without a compass hoping you’ll stumble across a Unicorn pool cue.

I played with a pear wood snooker cue briefly when I first moved to China, was interesting, Couldn't tell the difference between maple and ash to be honest (besides not catching beard hairs from time to time). But the Pear wood was a unique experience.
As for pool cues, the margin for difference is so limited, so subjective and so blindly led by profit grabbing. I've been fortunate enough to use just about everything under the sun. 99% of the described 'differences' - LD, flex, power bala bala bala.... all marketing bollocks.
Solid maple is perfect. I am enjoying this KW shaft, but wouldn't have paid money for it. Maple was good enough. This shaft was gifted to me by a pro whose sponsor doesn't produce KW. Gave it a chance, playing well with it. No reason to change.

Reminds me of people walking around wearing their favorite sports player or team jerseys.
Wearing a team jersey is one thing, but seeing grown men wear one with a player's name on it looks a bit gay to me.
If you are having a cue built, just ask the cue maker to make one of the shafts, presuming you’d order two, Kielwood.

Truthfully that might be more interesting than the yawn videos Karl Boyes does of Pro players bag carries. They should rename those “Who sponsors you to play with their LD crap” instead of What’s in the bag.

I just checked back in on my post and WOW… So many triggered people and rude comments. What the heck people. Where does the anger come from? Geez. It’s disconcerting that there are so many people that forget the saying, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all”.
Read my post. It was a statement, not a recommendation either way. I’m in a lot of forums and social media pages and it always the same people that feel the need to be aggressive. It’s always insecure men. This is pointed at no one directly, you know who you are.

I love it when people play the 'insecure' card when they don't get replies they like. Only 'insecure' people in this thread are those that worry about what shaft material pros use. You're getting the same tired replies(i'm including myself so unwad ur panties) because this topic has been COVERED TO DEATH with the same result: what other players use does not matter and should NEVER figure in to one's equipment choices.
