MR format racking preferences

also if where the balls are in the rack matters, then simply have the opponent set the balls in the rack. no matter who is racking.
then it is fair for both.
Do you think Skyler was complaining, as another poster mentioned earlier, because the 2 at the bottom made more predictable layouts specific to that match only, or that it is easier in genera when racking the 2 at the bottom in MR formatl?
From my observations over the last few weeks, I would say the layouts have been more forthcoming, but I am no Dr. Dave.

well first off the breaker can move the cue ball where he wants after it is racked.

or all balls put in order with the 9 in the middle. fair for everyone.

To settle all the BS that 9-ball is too easy because of pattern racking, wired balls, cut breaking, soft breaking, etc., maybe they should come up with a completely new game.

- ALL balls are randomly racked, to include the one ball and the nine ball
- The head ball must be the first contact ball on the break
- Balls made on the break are immediately brought back up and spotted in sequential order on the foot spot
- Nine ball does not count on the break
- If balls are made on the break, the breaker has the option to push on the first shot
- If no balls are made on the break, the incoming player has the option to push on the first shot
- Slop counts

i like it but would compromise on 1 and 9 where they are
and add break from the centerline of the table behind the spot.

but all good for changes to the game as it really isnt how it was ever supposed to go.

the break is the biggest worst thing of all as it was supposed to be a random power lucky shot to start the game. not a controlled dead ball shot.

I still like randomizing where the one goes. It makes it less predictable where the one will wind up if they make a ball on the break. Players would still be able to make "wired" balls on the break, but they wouldn't necessarily have a "lock" on where the one will wind up after the break. It would also get rid of the cut break where they always make the one ball in the side. If the one was the head ball, there would be no advantage to making it on the break because it would be spotted from making it on the break and it would, more than likely, keep them from breaking and running out.

okay ill buy that
It would make the game a lot more strategic than it is being played today.

The current game is way too predictable and it becomes boring to watch after a few games.

It is like "Goundhog Day"...same thing over and over.

I think the rack should be randomized for 9 and 10 ball. Fedor and SVB used a neat widget in their jumbo races to tell them where to rack everything. I think it should be like that. Fixing a ball in the rack (especially the deuce) is an advantage to these elite players. They know where it's going.
I'm not even a short stop and I know where it's going. If I'm paying attention I'll change where I break from depending on what balls are where. There are only 7 balls you have to think about and barring kisses it's not hard to figure out where they go and how to hit.

We always used to put the 2B in the back because there are some tournaments that do so around here but honestly it was making it just too easy to get shape on the 2, especially if you were able to put the 1B in the side pocket. Even if the 1B missed you were still usually OK.

That's what I am leading into I think. If it's chosen for me, I am lining up with whichever side the 2 is placed. If It's at the back, I am sticking with the left.
If I am racking my own, with the break box MR style, the 2 is going at the bottom.

There's a guy that plays here locally, he's pretty sporty, and whenever he is on the hill, he breaks from near dead straight, and makes the 9 with annoying regularity. Bouncing the bottom ball back into the pack. He's posted a couple hilarious videos where he does little prayer and points to the pocket first. Creases me up every time.

I am assuming it would be child's play for an app maker to come up with a random generator for a phone that creates a random order for the balls to be placed each time they are racked.

Any coders out there?

I'm a software developer and I already created one in my spare time for fun. I'm too lazy to put it on the app store because I could earn what, like $30 from it? I don't even personally use it because it's just really not an issue in my daily pool life.

Edit: here's a link to a much better video of the app in action: https://photos.app.goo.gl/4qSv5a7GWo4YLGxc8

That’s nothing more than your opinion, no matter if it is 9 ball, 10 ball, 1 pocket or 14:1, the break is definitive in every discipline because irrelevant of the discipline, the goal is always the same, controlling the table. Frankly the assertion that it’s intent is “a random lucky power shot” is about as far from the truth as possible.

A randomizing app is fine - probably for those people who don't trust simple things. There is an easy way to rack balls randomly without any kind of software. Watch referees at WPA tournaments do this.
