CNN’s story on fedor and how a Russian became a star of team USA

Get ready for all the Fedor haters that say he's not an American. Cool story, nice post. (y)
One of the greatest things about this country is you can choose to become an American citizen legally by simply following the law, I have no problem with people who want to BE American and truly love this country and not just want to turn America into the country they want to leave and receive benefits that tax payers pay for 💯

Fedor's American in that he has found great acceptance among the American pool fans, who easily relate to him.

After all, the Ukrainian war and its aftermath separated him from both his family and his coach. The WPA piled on, inexplicably deciding that Russian players could no longer play in WPA sanctioned events (reversed less than a year later).

Facing stressful life circumstances and some inexplicable persecution on the basis of his nationality, Fedor gathered himself and made a great life for himself here in America. His is a great American success story.

OK, so he is not a citizen yet, and maybe there is something comical about his inclusion on Team USA, but he is very much one of us, having embraced American life and all that comes with it. Fedor is very easy to root for.

... and, of course, his inclusion on Team USA has made the Mosconi a better event.

Go get 'em, Fedor.

Yep, you can be from anywhere and become an American, there is NO other country you can become a citizen of with no restrictions. Everybody that wants to be American can be - you cannot become an American Canadian, Mexican, Norwegian, Cuban, Venezuelan etc, etc, etc.

We are the greatest nation on the planet, assimilate or go home - you either want to be here or you don't. There is nowhere else to flee to. The left is too stupid to realize this.

When you watch events like the Olympics we are one of the few countries if any that have a wide range of people and nationalities.
I work in the city for frito and come across a lot of immigrants running corner stores. They HATE liberals who bitch and think this country is terrible. They always say you have no idea how many things that even poor Americans enjoy every day compared to the rest of the world. Like I’ve always said people will float on garbage across an ocean of sharks to get here for a reason. We aren’t perfect but you work hard and make good decisions and you can go from nothing to a damn good life with in a generation.

If fedor loves this country .. appreciates what we have to offer .. and wants to live here. He sounds pretty American to me.

This move makes sense for Fedor. His career was being threatened by the shameful actions of these sports bodies who take sides with governments in the realm of international politics. It's not limited to pool, it's everywhere. Hive mind stuff ... reminds me a lot of the irrationality of what we saw 5 years ago.

I've always found it despicable when athletes are impacted by the nonsense of governments, whether it's wars, sanctions, politics or whatever. Who can forget the Olympics boycotts and bans? Terrible for the fans, even worse for the atheletes who lose out during the prime of their careers that they cannot get back.

Keep your politics out of game.

Nobody is patting any of these orgs on the back for taking sides on issues that have nothing to do with the game. Oooo, you banned a Russian athlete...wowzers, that will sure show Putin! Take that! Ha! This stuff is also applied in gross hypocrisy and inconsistency...there's many players playing under flags of nations that are committing heinous violations of human rights on a mass scale. This is why politics should stay out of the game, and people who are serious about pool should say so.

Anyway,

Is Fedor an American? He's here legally. Does that make one an America? Who cares.

What most people seem to have in common, regardless of what Fedor is seen as, is that they appreciate him for being a great player. That right there shows where the focus is. Not on what country someone is from, or what wars are being fought, or which politics someone has... Doesn't pool go beyond languages, races, ethnicities, religions, nations, sexes, disabilities, and all that? I thought so.... but those who banned Fedor don't seem to think so.

This story should have been big news when he first came over....but pool is a fringe sport and even within pool players, there's 299 players out of 300 who cant even name 3 pro players.

I'm good with it. What other sport can you enter a pro event for 100 bucks?

"“When he first got on the team, I was actually rooming with him in Vietnam, and I told him, ‘You owe me dinner for the rest of your career, because you’re literally taking one of my spots,’” Dominguez, who has played on the US Mosconi Cup team three times, said with a laugh."

Fair play, Oscar. :ROFLMAO:

Immigrants have been shaping this country since day one, that’s not new - that is America. Every wave came here and left its mark. When others do it, we call it “gentrification,” but it’s the same thing - people moving in and changing the landscape.

The idea of “assimilation” depends on who you ask. For some, it means learning the language, following the law, and contributing. For others, it’s code for conformity, “be like us or you don’t belong” - But that’s never been America.

The Irish weren’t expected to act like the English. The Italians didn’t become Irish. Nobody told the Germans to stop making beer or bratwurst. Every wave of immigrants changed the country - that is assimilation, not rejection of it.

Maybe the real issue isn’t assimilation at all. It’s who gets to decide what “being American” really means.

I get it, we don’t want people who are terrorists, who can’t follow our laws, or who come here to exploit the system instead of contribute. But it’s not about religion, culture, language, or heritage. It’s about values, respect, effort, and a willingness to build something together, whatever that looks like. America has always evolved. What it is today has never been exactly what it was yesterday.

It’s cool to see this champion transitioning into a US and continuing to thrive. Fedor’s talent speaks for itself and anyway he can help put American pool back on the map is great! Hopefully our immigration system keeps improving so more people like him can find their way here the right way.

I don't know one person who thinks be like us or you don't belong, I know lots of people who think it's unfair when an American citizen breaks a law they are held to account but people who are here illegally are not, even one's who have been deported and come back illegally again, America wasn't always free, our ancestors fought and died for the right to set up this form of government, it is the only form of government that says the rights of people are given by God and it's the job of the Government to protect those rights, you are not required to believe in God to have the those rights, I know there are countries that have governments that are horrible to their people, I believe that if there were people who were willing to rise up like we did America would help if asked.

It is genuinely funny to watch the Olympics opening ceremony and see how diverse the US team is while the media drones on incessantly about racism. The only team close to as diverse is probably the United Kingdom.
