Tales of last Saturday's night match

There is so much to learn, I was so disgusted with myself, I practice EVERY day, I have 3 balls and the eight ball to win the match and I have ball in hand, easy win right? It should have been....I looked at the layout, I worked backwards from the eight ball, nope, I stared at the layout, didn't use one bit of the training I have been working on, made the first ball, promptly got out of shape and lost a game I should have won, I was mad at myself for not knowing how to plan the run, the reality is I did know how to plan it but I didn't think of it until tonight's practice, plan the runout from the 8 ball backwards, there's more than working on the physical aspects of the game, I guess I should have been working on the most important part of this game.....properly using my brain, but I've never been accused of that.....

thats why you cant teach or practice experience
next time you will do better..... :giggle: (y)

Sounds as if your condition is the reverse of Matthew 26.41. Your flesh is willing but your spirit is weak.
It's not that the spirit is weak, it's the failure to Engage brain, I guess I have to learn the hard way, just smart I guess.......

I can teach you.....
Set up the layout and practice it until you are experienced at running out.
That's what I did, I set it up and thought, what's the best way to run this out and the light bulb went off and I remembered, work backwards from the eight, hard lesson I won't forget EVER......hopefully

no, you dont work back from the 8. with 3 balls you just look at where to put the cueball on the first ball to get easiest position on the second ball that gives you a good shot at the 8

Only problem with that is I had 3 balls on the table AND the 8 ball.....

a pool table is like a road map. (you know those things you had before your phone that talks to you).

so with both you see where you are and your destination. to get there you follow the path of least resistance. simple as that.

you don't on the map go backwards from your destination towards the starting point.

but you do take in the whole picture.

I learned this from a PBIA Billiards instructor, Neils Feijen has a YouTube video teaching the exact same thing as well, it feels uncomfortable, learning anything new feels uncomfortable, the more I work with this the more it makes sense, I would never in a million years would have thought to look at 8 ball patterns this way, I can learn the info from Pro's and instructors or stubbornly continue to fail doing it my way......

As long as you work it out thoroughly

and then shoot the pattern forwards...
