Thoughts ... Russian Kenny is out of prision

I've played Kenny a couple times in Tournaments, once in a finals match.
I came up through the one loss side.
I lost 7-3, nine ball.
Nobody runs a Calcutta like Kenny.
He has always been completely respectful with me.
He's a very focused person and trust me, he's very smart.
He's made bad choices.
Hopefully he turns it around.
Hopefully he's learned the "cost of doing bad business," even for what he perceived as the "right" reasons. He's been given a second chance to choose a "different" path. With any luck, and a little "wisdom," he will truly view his life/options through a different lens.
Don't know him personally, but I wish him luck on the journey. Time will tell. If he's learned anything, he will fade the noise, and let his actions do the talking...

Have heard NOTHING good ever about Russian Kenny. I have a friend in NJ that has mentioned him before and his very LARGE DEBTS he owes locally there. I have seen him and heard him in action at the Derby a few times. He fast talks and says I have my backer flying in tomorrow with $50k, I need someone to put up $7k until he gets here tomorrow. Plays decent but honestly in the same level as MANY that play good enough to just get by and not so at other times. Listening to the interview of saying he sold only that 1 time, that he was HELPING a friend, is all the role that literally 10’s of thousands play when they get caught. Great BS Artist and full of more s&”t than a Christmas turkey. Listening to him say that he wishes people would hate him for things that they have actually been victim of says all I need to know without hearing or seeing any of the other stories. Just be a good person and you don’t have to worry about what anyone thinks of you. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Do the crime, do the time and BE A MAN and take responsibility for YOUR poor actions. And I ALWAYS find it comical when a grown man calls these people HATERS. Be a decent human being and you would not have So many HATERS. Hopefully he will change his actions and stop with NOT taking responsibility for his actions. It’s people like this that have made me not support pool in certain ways and have grown away from the pool life. Way more to life than being around this.

This is exactly what is wrong with American pool culture.

Criminals being aggrandized and put in the limelight, simply because they are popular or can make a ball.

Is the youth expected to look up to people like this and be inspired to greatness? Greatness in what? Stiffing, stealing, and dealing?
I've seen plenty of drug dealers who play or stake pool, come and go through Philly.
Gil, Julio, Darren, etc etc.
On the one hand, part of me can kinda understand where people come from.
They are just "another one of the guys" if you don't focus on how they make their money. But they all get locked up eventually.

But should the drug dealers, and drug using pool players who steal money, stiff people, and OD at tournaments, really be held in high esteem, simply because they can make a ball, or run a good calcutta, or are a character? Should the pool masses turn a blind eye like they seem to do and make them THE FOCUS?

I don't understand the purpose of putting the attention on people like that in terms of helping pools image.

Id rather see an interview with the grill guy in the kitchen.

Bingo, could not have said it better. These guys do not deserve to be in any light at all. I don’t see why anyone would look up to this, but you are 100 percent correct. Someone can make a ball and they are praised. I see it at all levels, probably even more so at the true professional level. One of The most recent that everyone knows about with the match where the pro stiffed another for $5-$6k and blamed it on his kid. A GROWN MAN PULLING HIS POOR KID INTO IT mentioning her college tuition. Dont you just know that she is as embarrassed as can be? I see a lot of these commentators in these events too that people just PRAISE. If people knew half of their stories of dumping/stiffing, they would not be doing what they are doing (or maybe they would because people overlook the fact that they are a terrible human because of their pool game). Absolutely backwards!

Have you ever watched a Rap video, professional football, basketball, hockey, baseball players? The Kardashians(made famous by a F tape with a rapper? So many truly famous people because of a lot worse than anything Kenny did.

Maybe 1%(probably less) of pool players know who he is, so who gives a shit if they did a video on him.

How many serial killer documentaries are there? And Russian Kenny is the problem?

Wow!

Not saying I disagree with you, but let's be real.

Why would any parent want their child to participate in a sport where gambling, sharking, greed, and seediness prevail !?!
For that matter why would any parent want to participate in a game with those characteristics.
Yeah cause none of the other sports have that, how about the music industry? How about all the scumbag lawyers? How about all the corrupt cops? Shall I go on

Same as above, Im not disagreeing with you, its just a big pile of nothing compared to everything else going on in the world

Are rap videos getting swallowed or injected into people's arms and destroying kids lives? Are porn videos getting kids addicted to something that will potentially destroy their lives down the road and cause them to die?

Sorry. People that sell poison are bottom of the barrel in my mind and shouldn't be held in high esteem.

I'm sure you would react with equal anger if a loved one got busted watching a rap video, vs if they got some pills from a dealer and ODed. 🙃

Felony conviction selling heroin and fentanyl doesn't equal "fading the noise" or doing what you have to do to feed your kids.

No particular disagreement. That being said, you've essentially just eliminated professional sports in it's entirety. The only difference between the "other" sports and pool, is that they're played in fancier stadiums/venues, and make a helluva lot more money.

It's the pool world. This stuff has been part of the lore forever.
