Solid vs layered tips

The benefits of layered tip are that they hold shape better, mushroom less and have a better consistency in feel.
you probably won't be able to tell the difference between newly installed layered tip and a newly installed solid tip with the same hardness.
With time, the difference is more noticeable but since we get used to things, you'll be able to noticed it more if you had two shafts with the two tips and you get to use them both over the same period of time.
Bottom line, layered tip needs less maintenance. It's not about the feel that much.

I have never, ever found any layered tip that mushrooms less than a solid triangle tip. Of course, there is a big difference in soft layered tips vs. hard layered tips- ALL soft layered tips mushroom from my own experience.

I think that a good Triangle tip requires the least maintenance out there, just from my own experience, but one would need to like a harder tip to use Triangle. I use the Triangle as a break tip- best that I have found overall. I actually like a softer playing tip and ultraskin medium ivories seem to be a nice compromise with less mushrooming than the softer versions of ultraskin.

When there's private poolrooms that require a membership fee and the use of a dining room goes towards your minimum we'll talk about it again.
Don't misunderstand, I know plenty of golfers that play pool and golf. There is a large segment of the golf world that belong to one of the thousands of private Country clubs in America that buy the newest driver every year.
The 30 years that I played golf was on the publinks.
How much is a round these days on a publinks? Been a while.

It is crazy good, its amazing the impact that carbon fibre has had, since 2018. Which started the demand for the next best thing you can buy, to go in line, with the expensive shafts, same with the chalks.
I dont remember, these kind of prices for tips, back then. Its no surprise, as you said that marketing has become king!

Predator perfected it. Create a market and then market it. Like I say, great that there are people playing the game and supporting the game.

Any where from about $20(walking) to $100bux riding. Here in Tulsa decent public golf runs about 35-45bux riding. Place called ForestRidge is like a country-club for a day and its around 100 but that's an exception to most local tracks. My senior rate at four city courses is 30bux riding.

I've never had a U'skin med. Black mushroom. Ever. Plus they are ALL the same. Good luck finding ten good Tri's in a box of 50. A 'good' Tri is a great tip. They're just too inconsistent. They have improved some since Tweeten quit using stomach leather for tips. Should only use shoulder area leather for tips.

Yes Ultraskin medium black or ivory will be fine - I like the ivory only bc I like a contrast between tip side when burnished and the top half.

Every time that I have Mueller’s- Troy Downey do a Triangle for me - no issues - maybe they pre sort them IDK.

While I really like the Ultraskins that I use, I have to admit the last box of Triangles I got were really good. I wanted to have some around for those that wanted them, but had horrible results with a few I had bought previously and swore I would never use them again. A couple years back someone on here recommended them again but said you had to get the 15mm version. Took a while to find them but when I did, ordered a box. While I have only for the most part used them for fixing bar sticks, I kept one of those bar sticks to make into a two piece cue and play around with it at home now and then. That Triangle tip is fantastic and that bar stick plays really good.

Once they quit using stomach leather Tweeten's tips got better. I don't use them but i've heard from other users/installers that in general their tips have improved.

Been about 17 years since I hit the links. Doesn't look like that greens fees have gone up much. Always carried Spring and Fall.

Recently I decided to give a layered tip a try.
I had an Everest installed and can not tell the difference from a solid tip.
The layered tip was $40 installed vs a solid tip at $23 installed.

All tips have a sweet spot, very seldom get one i don't have to work on a few times to find that sweet spot. I shoot with a hard tip Zam Hard Grip I just wanted to try one. I played with triangles for years . I surely won't pay for the expensive anymore Every tip has a sweet spot, they just need to be worked on until they feel right The Zan tip hits great, just too over priced
 
I must admit that I've used more old stock Le Pro tips back in the day when we didn't have all the choices we do today , since I came back to playing fairly regularly I've tried milk duds , and Techno duds and enjoyed them on the check installed them on .

However I've since learned about the G2 medium tips and they on my main playing cue which is what was on it even Mike Gulyassy has good things to say about them for whatever its worth .
