What's your favorite pool memory from 2025?

This definitely strikes a chord with me. Just nobody much gambling anymore. I’m in southern ky too. Most folks now don’t even know what a ring game is. Very sad.
Okay I reminisce of "those were the days".
I shall endeavor to promote a quarter fifty cent ring game.
Ambassador to the game is my goal. 🤷‍♂️
We could even play Scotch partners.
Uh oh triggered self there. The time I drew the cook in the mixed scitch draw with 3 lady stars. We won!!!! 🤷‍♂️ ☺ she just did what I told her......to perfect. She was a good cook and followed the recipe. 🤷‍♂️
Happy new year.

This is a sad thing isn’t it? It’s somewhat similar where I play now, although there is a small group of old school players that still gamble as we always did and bet it up pretty good with each other as we all always liked to bet high.

One in our circle loves to chide the top 2 or 3 players there of the younger generations who have the skills to gamble but seldom do, and generally only play cheap, and amongst themselves. The best of them challenged one of our group once and got skinned alive, so they avoid us now.
That's what is wrong with pool.

You could chide me all you want.. personally I think gambling is dumb and I’d just ignore you. Lol

whats wrong with pool? Gambling? Why do you people think that you can be great at any game in the world without gambling but pool to be a good player you just have to gamble? 🤣 doesn’t make sense.

I don’t know if I really had a favorite moment this year. Enjoyed getting back to the expo.

you don't gamble? bull crap.

you gamble everyday on disturbing thoughts happening.

you bet with the insurance company that your house will burn down and they bet it wont.

you bet you will have a car accident and hurt people and they bet you don't.

you or many even bet you will die young and they bet you live long.

you bet the health insurance companies you will get sick and have high medical bills and they bet you wont.

personally, i don't bet with the insurance companies unless i have to by law. other wise i self insure so bet i do well.

i also bet on anything i believe is a good bet. whether its a pool game, a card hand, a horse race, or a stock i like.
this way my bets all have a positive expectation, unlike others who bet on the bad happening. and don't want to win their bets.

To you Trob, that’s the interesting thing in life, it’s all about perspective. You think gambling is dumb, you’re entitled to your opinions.

I have an opinions too. I look at people who buy multiple cues, $400+ CF shafts, $20+ chalks, gloves, cases, garish plastic shirts to play in a league on bar boxes and call themselves “pool players”, and I think that’s dumb. I mean, I never heard of those playing miniature golf calling themselves golfers. Or those that go to go cart tracks calling themselves nascar or formula one drivers. Why? Because they’re not. You see it’s all about perspective.

And to you Tennessee Joe, you’re entitled to your opinion as well. What I’ve written above here regarding bar box players thinking they’re pool players, this is what’s wrong with pool. It’s why Americans are the laughingstock of the professional pool world, a nation that once turned out the finest players in the game and now are an afterthought, because of their affinity for bar boxes over pool tables. I know this isn’t a popular opinion here at AZB, the lair of the “league players”, yet it doesn’t make it any less true. Have a great day gentlemen.

Not to offend you but I only took issue with older seasoned gambling players 'chiding' younger non gamblers. I remember the old days when gamblers jumped up to get kids who walked in the door to gamble. They run them off. If I owned the pool hall I would have a talk with the hustlers about hurting my business. That is why a lot of pool halls close...no younger customers.

By the way, these older hustlers always complain that nobody gambles anymore but when a real player come in...they leave the building. I have seen this over and over.

Just my view and I respect yours.

Attending all of the Pro pool events here in NE FL at the end of the year right down the street from my home in JAX, particularly Predator’s WPA Women’s World 9 Ball Championship. There was the International, River City Open, Predator Men’s 10 Ball, and then the women’s W9C.

It was great watching the top women battle it out in person. Hadn’t seen them since leaving Chicago a decade ago where I used to regularly attend the WPBA events in Michigan City, E. Peoria, and Villa Park. Much better talent at this event, though too bad a few additional Heyball ladies didn’t attend (Siming, etc). Would be interesting to know if the promoter even extended an invite to Chen; I sure as hell would have. Predator put on a great event with admission being free too. Didn’t mind the set format for 9 ball and thought the extended races in the last couple of rounds really challenged them appropriately. The shootout is just dumb. Cool sitting tableside watching Shasha Liu crush Amit. Too bad they couldn’t have had some elevated seating around the outer tables. What a waste not having any vendors other than that one booth (out of Vegas) and a couple of Predator displays.

The Men’s 10 Ball was great but definitely could have used a few more top pros attending. Also thought the races should have been extended some in the last couple of rounds. The scheduling of their event was just ass awful. No need at all to stretch the event out like they did. No wonder why more pros don’t attend with all that downtime and unnecessary extra nightly expenses. This isn’t just a Predator issue either. Of course they toss the Doubles event on top to fill the time. Thank god there was no Juniors event.

River City Open was nothing special. Only a few big names, good to see Biado there. The seating (and prices) were horrendous. Maybe with more notice they can get better signups.

The International was a let down after last year. Wonder if Fleming will have it there again? I thought he had a contract for another year. Thought most of the Pro events were poorly attended and duds. Guess the amateur sold out so maybe that was a positive on his ledger.

Will be attending all of them again if they take place, plus add the FL Open too. Will pass on the Mosconi Carnival.

Pick me I'm now a bar league pool player because I don't have a 4 1/2' x 9' table within 120 miles one way .

When I did stop in at Brothers Billards where they do have both 7' and 9' tables a friend offered to playa few racks of 8 ball on a 9' table , it had only been 25 years or close to it since I last played on a 9' table at that time because of family obligations .
When it was said and done I won more games than I lost . later on I played in the Big Sky State Games Senior Division and finished 4th out of 35 players , yes those matches were played on bar diamond bar tables at best around home all I've got to play on regularly are valley tables not my favorite but such is life .

As for gambling I do when its a tournament and I've placed in the money more times than not even when there's been so called or self proclaimed " road players " entered .

Many years ago when I lived near the Hardin Corner Pocket and yes in those days I played on the 4 1/2' x 9' tables instead of the bar boxes I was asked to come down to a bar downtown as two " road players " were beating everyone for whatever they had been playing for .
One was called Dakota the other Meryl it was a double elimination tournament the game 9 ball single game and the entry fee wasn't to much $ 10.00 maybe $15.00 ? Anyway I played and beat the locals and then I had to play Dakota and Meryl long story short I walked out with the cash and both of them shook my hand and they both said they had under estimated me , sadly we never got to play again and I believe both are long gone before their time .
Even the bar this took place in also is gone its a Memorial Park for a fallen Police officer who also was a friend of mine back in those days , even the Corner Pocket is a empty building and the owners have also passed away .

To me, pool is very much like poker.

If you're not betting something to keep everyone from drawing to inside straights and going all in every pot you need a bet to keep things in line.

Agree 100%. Look folks, people have been gambling since the stone age and trying to hide from it or banish it is nuts. Pool should embrace it and tap into the huge $$ that's out there. Pool can only dream about the $$ being made in the poker world.
All the church goers would be amazed at what's gambled on at the poker table.

Wait till they find out about the NFL, NBA, MLB, college sports etc
