2026 WNT Ranking event- Chinese Taipei Open, 8-11 Jan2026, Winner $30K

Looks like the Vietnamese Dang Thanh Kien who beat Ko Ping Chung would be fun to watch. He is always smiling and reminds me of Tommy Kennedy. He has to play Ko Pin Yi tonight. Hopefully, it will be on the TV Table.

dang than kien impressed in beating lil ko. played faster than i remember too. i was thinking as lil ko got up from his seat to get out of the line of sight, he's such a good sport, never heard a bad word about him

Yes, nice of lil Ko to concede to a upcoming player with smiles and hugs.

Anybody esle noticing that Biado, the Ko clan, and most of these guys are using wood shafts?

Carbon fiber shafts are cheap in Asian, but the players seem to prefer wood.

Wonder why.

:)

Probably because their sponsors are not forcing or pressuring them to use CF for marketing gain. Or maybe they are but the players said NO!

i don't know to tell the age of taiwanese people but all players i've seen except 2 or 3 play with wood.. same thing in mainland china it seems, although they play heyball
I know the Ko's parents own(ed) a pool hall and they've all been playing since they were knee high to a grasshopper.
They play with Zen cues I think(not sure they make a carbon shaft)
Apparently Cuetec isn't cutting those SVB checks for everyone.

yes, they both won world championships with southwests, and changed to zen later (with solid maple shafts). i thought at first it was a weird sponsor because they are quite expensive cues, but maybe i was wrong, they seem to sell well

Random but I was today years old when I learned Roberto Gomez was one 9ball away from winning the 2007 World Pool Championship against Daryl Peach...

It popped up on my YouTube feed. I didn't even know he's been playing that long.

it was an incredible moment at the time, both daryl peach fading the hostile crowd and gomez choking, and the prize money. it was the highest ever for world 9b championship, 100k, and daryl got kind of ripped off by a manager he (for some reason) hired after the win. that was a weird story in itself.

that match definitely dented gomez mentally.. he's won smaller events since but nothing big that i can remember

The finals was scheduled to start an hour ago, they might give Nalaunan a few minutes before they start the finals.
