DERBY CITY CLASSIC DRESS CODE

What happened to the dress code at the DCC? Folks looked like a bunch of bums. I am tired of T shirts...especially black. I guess the black is ok because it doesn't show the dirt after wearing it for a week.

This is why POOL & POOL PLAYERS will never always be consider a bush league sport. Say they look like a Buch of BUMS is the Reason Pool is struggling to attract major sponsors to create large pots of cash for winning major events.

It wasn’t always like this though. I can remember as a young man in the sport seeing all the “players” that always dressed sharp all the way down to their alligator shoes, wearing waist aprons when matches ensued, so as not to dirty or leave creases in their slacks from leaning into the table. Guys like a good friend and former partner Toby Sweet, dressed to the nines as he traveled the road in his Jaguar, we were different then.

night clubs in my city have begun banning sweatpants.. when i was frequenting such establishments, wearing sweatpants there would been looked upon as something a mental patient would do. might as well had a toothbrush in the mouth. but i guess it's a trend now, nike something sweatpants

What drives me nuts is they will enforce the one pocket time lengths like the Gestapo (even if the match before you ended late), but it's crickets when Justin Hall wants to wear his "dress t-shirt" for an accu-stats match.

You had specific outfits for the club when I was in my 20s. It's a total slobification of our society.

Derby City has always had the "pool room" vibe - it's part of what makes DCC the DCC, to me at least.

As Fats said, "putting a tuxedo on a pool player is like putting whipped cream on a hot dog."

I have a whole list of “I am so old that…” quotations. I can add one now. “I am so old that I remember when tough guys dressed up and not down.” I’m trying to get a picture in my mind of Clem Metz or Johnny Ervolino in a baseball cap. Nothing is coming up. My brain is saying, “I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.”

Guys playing pool in a T shirt should at least make sure that the tail of the shirt is long enough to cover their backside when they have to stretch over the table. Maybe billiard supply firms could sell shirts with extended tails.

Fats' idea of "dressing down" was a banded waist short sleeve shirt, slacks and dress shoes.
