See my post in the other thread. Filler is an 858 and he broke and ran 4 racks in the SVB match. So no, you would probably not run out most of the racks. Filler had a 3 pack in that match. I don’t see why it is a problem if the best player in the world can B&R in a short rack game.
Four out of nine is 44% of the match without the other play shooting. After that the number of times they break can't get all the way out but have the first defensive opportunity. It's still affords them essentially control of the game first.
If you like “defensive games”, play and watch one pocket. 9 ball isn’t meant to be a defensive game, it’s all about firepower and should always remain that way.

Someone must agree with me a little bit because they keep experimenting with rules. Racking the nine on the spot, break boxes, rotating the break, smaller pockets, and so on.
just play 10b the same rules as the bigfoot. that would neuter the break quite a bit.
Not a good way to play. Once you see it demonstrated you would agree.
Only seen that in race to 3 local weeklies. I see why it is used in that context but I agree it is not good for a bigger tournament with longer races.
It's good because it gives the weak players the illusion that they have a better chance to win, so they get in. They just get more chances to break badly. Really.
Yes, granted, they have an opportunity to make the 9 on the break, but that probability is likely close to the better player / breaker leaving them a quick combo or billiard on the 9 after their break. In short, no help to them.
The rub is, when a player gets on the hill he is getting spotted the rest of the breaks to win one game.
