That's what the rule says. You could otherwise use a block of wood with a wrist strap (so it comes off the table with your hand)

with the mechanical bridge your bridge hand does not touch the the part where the cue rests
with the device you show your bridge hand is holding it
Am I understanding? You think we should be allowed to use other things/equipment to elevate the bridge hand?

I don't think I would call the rule prohibiting it any more stupid than any other rule that limits how equipment is to be used in order to play the game though. The rules just tell us how to play the game and ensure that we all play it in the same manner in the same situation...
Pool is stoneage when compared to other tool facilitated sports. Archery, guns, surfing, on and on.
That is the standard usage of standard bridge heads. Long time ago they tried to market a handheld bridging tool under Loree Jones name and it was quickly disallowed. There's a lot of brain dead in pool. Thankfully that rule is no longer used.
And every one of those has specific rules and limitations on what equipment can be used, and how it's used.
Post advancements; and the rules of confinement do not impede the respective sports.
Scopes, compound leverage, triple skegs and leashes, not pool. Pool is like don't do this, don't do that, nope, can't, uh uh...
The “device” is not legal at VNEA World Championships. I wouldn’t get used to using one even at the local level.
Surprisingly, I did happen to find out the EZ jumper is legal in CSI run leagues & events.

I actually received the attached device in the mail today and tried it out. While it does elevate the bridge higher, it's very unstable due to its construction in my opinion. The vertical shaft is too thin, and a little horizontal tab 2/3 of the way up gets in the way. If you try to stabilize it the way they suggest, the bottom tends to wiggle around on the table top. I tried it for about a half hour, a couple times, and could do better without this mechanical bridge then with it. I will be sending this one back, and look forward to trying the ez jump bridge when it comes on Monday.
I don't think they are legal. The 2025 edition of the WPA rules I believe had a section stating something to the effect: "bridges must be used in their conventional matter."

Found this in the latest WPA rules. Seems to confirm these bridges are NOT legal, because they are "novel" equipment.
Show me a sport, no matter how technically advanced you think it is and I'll show you rules that specify what you can or cannot do.
Rules don't exist to promote improvement. They don't exist to help or to hinder. They don't exist to reward or punish. The rules for any game exist for no other reason than to tell us how to play the game.
Period.
Jeez will you get off the argumentative? Of course rules confine and restrict the play. That's so there's a standard for competition. Bogus rules like the one being disgust (lol) come from the genre of <you can't be better>.
If you want to get better, do whatever you need to do to get better.
If you need to change the rules of the game to "get better", you're not getting better....
You don't consider circumventing physical impairment a positive step? This is obviously too much of a move for the Loser Kommand. You bought sticks didn't you? Use a glove? Maybe you like the camaraderie of the loser bots?
I use equipment that conforms to the rules if that equipment works for me.
I don't blame my inability to improve on rules that limit the equipment that I'm allowed to use.
So this is about you? lol. Me, by all player metrics, I suck. Now what? A dum rule is a dum rule.
Incidentally, I'm not the trouble making brat banned from competition. (there's gotta be a few right?) Still, you have a sport dead in the water and dum rules are not helpful.
