Could you please suggest some safety options for this common shot? Thanks!

why play safe ?
just cut it in !!!!!!!!!!!! 😇
seriously i like patrick's answer also i might hit it with follow so the cue ball stays down there (hi karate like dany di would say )
and the 9 ball goes from where it is to the side rail and down towards the opposite end rail
patrick's shot is easier but can leave a makeable bank
my shot is harder and you can leave a makeable bank but there is distance from cue ball to object ball and object ball to pocket making it a tougher bank

The typical move is 1/2 ball soft cut to leave the two balls on opposite long rails about midway between pockets.

This will take a couple practice shots to get the feel for it. Bank the 9 ball straight back to the other short rail. Put extreme right on the cue ball and after it hits the 9 ball the cue ball will go off of the short rail and over the left long rail and the right spin will bring the cue ball right to where the 9 ball started. Freddie the Beard showed it to at the DCC.

i find that since the 9 ball is going to its right
and the cue ball is going left with your shot
if you hit it alittle bad you leave a cut shot
meaning if the 9 ball goes more right of the centerline
than the cue ball getting back to the center line the cut becomes more doable
the shot i diagrammed the cue ball and object ball tend to end up more parallel
either way its easy to sell out....
pats shot is easier to execute but leaves an easier bank and i think easier options to return the safe since the balls are closer together

Exactly as diagrammed, I like BBB's first shot choice. If the CB and OB are more in line with one another, Darren Appleton outlines a couple good options that have not yet been mentioned in the vid above.

With the ball frozen on the cushion, I think some of the suggestions won't work.

If you play the side-to-side safety, concentrate on putting the object ball exactly where you want on the side rail. If you get it right, the cue ball should be good enough.

Ah, true. Didn't even catch the 9 was on the rail. That takes out the first option BBB showed that I liked so much due to double kiss. DA's solutions still hold. His series of must know shots is quite insightful and offers some really good unintuitive shots that only seem obvious after you see them.

One of those solutions for the OP shot is to kick will left follow off the top cushion. I think that's a good way to give up ball in hand on the nine for the vast majority of players who are just learning safeties. Many of them can't hit within two balls of the intended spot on the short rail. The main point here is that the right shot for Darren may not be the right shot for intermediate players.

True. A pro-ish strong kicking game is required for that one. But I think his shot #4 is closer to this example than shot 3 that has the kick solution...which is worth a try on tables one is comfortable kicking on even if not pro level imo. His top choice for #4 is def well within reach for mere mortals but kinda hard to see. Honestly if I saw a 500 fargo pull that off I'd assume it was a fluke before giving him credit for it as the balls do move around kinda wild. Def a wider range of good outcomes than other options.

i didnt catch the 9 frozen either
in the op's layout the cue ball and object ball are not parallel to the side rail
so like darrens kick solution my shot is similar since i start with an angle (if the 9 isnt frozen)
