Since my 2 year old Cuetec Avid has a crack, and it seems fairly common, it has left a bad taste in my mouth for ever buying a Cuetec again. I'm thinking of going back to a maple shaft and have been looking at a few different makers including Joss. I'm looking at something like the JOS02 cue and it seems to be on the low end of the price spectrum for Joss. My question / concern is that these less expensive models might not be to the Joss quality as some of the others or maybe they're imported from China and just have the Joss name on them. Can someone let me know what to expect from this cue quality wise? Thanks as always!

I like the Joss cues, all models They are quality built....
Perhaps there is a retail shop or dealer where you can go in person and at least look over the cues before you order one.
Also some of the Action cues are great quality for inexpensive prices too
My local pool room sells a ton of entry level JOSS cues, from sneaky petes, to plain curly maple/linen-wrap/steeljoint. The quality is fantastic and they have a nice classic hit. Honestly, I just purchased a new Meucci Summer Series with PRO shaft to play with. Inexpensive, and I love the way it plays/feels.
NO Joss cues are imported. All their cues are cored and built stout. The merry-widow cues under 400bux are nice.

I think garczar meant NOT imported. I have a Joss and it is a sweet playing cue. You can’t go wrong with any model.

Meucci then Joss were my favorite cues, because of the hit. The price reflected the ornamentation and not the quality. The Joss brand has gone through an evolution. The Joss in white letters is the older products. The JW in the butt was indication of hand crafted by Joss West. Bill Stroud was the quality guy and Danny Jane's the production partner originally. Their separation led to Joss West and Joss East.
JW cues are functional works of art and featured an ivory joint along with ivory ferrule. The quality that the ivory adds to the hit is oh so good. Well kinda like a high performance car, it takes a professional to drive it. Well at least to appreciate the subtleties that the ivory provides.
The Joss East (white letters) are in my experience a quality cue and expect that the gold lettered versions are as well.

I have a Joss Cue. Best purchase I have ever made. My Cuetec SVB sits in the case ever since.
Only think i don't like is on their solid maple shafts the diameter grows way too quick for my taste. I don't know about the HP or KW shafts as far as their taper goes. I'm sure they'd do it any way you asked but if you buy from a dealer or Amazon just be prepared for a old-school quik taper shaft.

I have been playing with my Joss (east) since the late 80s. Ivory ferrule and stainless joint along with the taper and weight to suite Cole Dixon. The Irish linen wrap got nicked and I removed it to find Coles name and date in ink under the wrap. Coles style led to him playing against his cue at times. His fondness for Stolies vodka contributed to his pawning habit. So Joss had his specs on file and could make another quickly.
Would love to see a photo of it. I'm guessing Cole played with it for a time?

Let me tell you my experience with Joss Cues. I called the phone number. Talk to the guy who builds the cue. We have a nice conversation about the work he does. Nicest guys around. I ordered a cue. I was happy. Every experience should be like that.
they have been around a long time and stand behind their products. not like some imported mass made junk for the same money.
but really anyone buying a cue should buy from a place or person and even pay some more, so that you can hit some balls with it and promise to buy it then and there if it hits to your style.
buying off the internet is just a gamble on what you get.

i probably owned more of coles cues than most anyone. i was his go to if around to buy the cue after he went broke.
it wasnt that he didnt like the cue it was he was disgusted with himself for losing and just did not want to see that cue again.
did not matter too much to him as he could just call bill stroud and have another in a couple days. or danny i guess.
