Unaware of mismatched ball sets in upcoming tournament.

If you had signed up and payed your entry and on game day find the balls they're using are actually mismatched sets with slight discrepancies in size and weight, what would you do??
I drove over 2 hours and had paid my entry prior to book a spot and ended up with some light crappy balls. It got to me and I played pretty bad. I looked and there were a couple sets of those balls and I just won't go back there

I would still play, but it would annoy me.
+1...and I'd be unlikely to return.

How about the rooms that had multiple table types? That always bugged the shit out of me.

I carry a set of clean and polished Dynasphere balls in the car on league nights. If the house balls are dirty or mismatched ww swap them out for the night. We always change out the cue ball and all teams carry a cueball we are not the only team that brings the whole set.

That brings memories of the Good Ole Days and playing $5 tournaments every night of the week. One place had 2 different brands of tables with different pockets, rails and cloth and of course one small cueball and the other the oversize ball. 🤷‍♂️ Player awareness. 🤷‍♂️ another reason to get there early enough to hit balls and scout the conditions.

in golf its called the rub of the green. you take what you get and adjust to the conditions. its fair or at least the same for the other guy as well.

and if you are the better player and smarter you can use it to increase your advantage.
I grew up playing snooker with the old Vitalite balls then came the Crytolites and had no problem switching over and playing decent. In a short race and not enough time with the light balls I was losing the CB. I know I should've been able to overcome the shit table and balls but failed

home court is a big advantage even in pool where most things are supposed to be standardized.

traveling around and playing in bars with cue balls smaller or larger and or much heavier makes one very aware of conditions.
cues with flat tips and warped. balls with chips out of them and dirty. roll off in every table, different sized pockets on the same table,
obnoxious players, but you get to leave with the money.

I hope that they either have a Delta or Diamond wood rack. In 8 ball I always look for loose balls while pushing the back row forward, if I find any they go in the back row starting at the corners and working their way in wards, hopefully there are no more than 5 tiny balls. You can do the same with 10 ball but its tough with 9 ball, as long as its not the 9 thats small its not a huge deal. One tournament I played in had Valley's and I believe polyester balls, you just couldn't get a good break, its like the rack was dead, the balls just would not move, they were all new and pretty though.

Would probably play but would not go back.

Over the years I’ve had to deal with mis-matched ball sets; being assigned a match on a GC, with the next match on a Diamond; old cloth on one table, new on the next; tight pockets on one table, buckets for the next match.

I’m told there’s a pool hall in STL that stopped using Aramith CBs because they kept getting swiped, so they replaced them with cheap, lighter knockoffs. Funny thing is some guys like them because their draw shot improved with the lighter CB, lol.

the more impediments the more the thinking players chances increase.

but of course less fun to play there.

if going to there to win money at a tournament sub standard equipment helps you do that if you use it to your advantage..

in 8 ball i dont ever run out and i want to break badly so balls are tied up. this gives me a huge advantage over most 8 ball players.
except ones that play alot of one pocket.

It is why I always carry a set of my own pool balls whenever I play pool. Just in case the pool balls were crappy I want to eliminate frustration and missed shots because the pool balls I played with varied in weights. Remember that the official rules of pool do not require the pool balls to consistently be the same size or weight. Pool ball weights can vary as much as 1/2 oz. A cue ball that can be 1/2 oz. lighter or heavier than the object balls will perform differently than a cue ball that’s the identical weight as the object balls that can also vary in weight. It is allowable and in the official rules of pocket billiards.

if playing for fun which i don't do, i would let a player bring in his own cue ball or set. but not for cash.
or not in a tournament of any kind.
