Best to Say Nothing at All?

i dont play tournaments but cash only.
but i say as i do in most things, what is on my mind, or in my best interests, or i feel needs to be said.

why would you do anything else.
 
This is helpful, I often defaulted to "good match" win or lose but it always feels weird when I win.

Often if it's a loss I'll say "good shooting" or "well played" or something.

But recently I've started using "good shooting with you" or "good playing with you" when I win and I think I'm going to stick with that in the future, much better than "good match" and takes the focus off performance.
 
I usually shake their hand and then hand them a box of tissues, followed by an imaginary complaint box, due to all of the bitchin and moaning they were doing during the match.

If they were a gentleman, I try to give them a compliment, like "what kind of cue is that? It's nice". That usually puts a smile on their face, even if they lost.

There is not an "always" answer for me. 🤷‍♂️
It's a wide range depending on how the game or match went.
Pre match I prefer a salute with no words. If they advance with hand extended I shake it. No biggie .Some of the handshakes will say, "shoot well", I prefer "good luck".
Post match, their behavior during the match determines what I do or don't say. If they are good sports my comment would be genuine and cordial. I have encountered total ass hats that I just turn and walk away. They certainly wouldn't like what I had to say. 🤷‍♂️

One last true story. 😉
I had been knocked out of the two day tournament on the first day and my wife and I were watching the big boys on Sunday. The wife of a competitor still playing told us of a cheap meat shoot that was about to start nearby. I went with her while my wife stayed behind. I lost in the finals to a very attractive female. Possibly her first victory in a tournament. A writer for the local monthly pool news flyer wanted a picture at the handshake. So as we posed holding hands my female companion blurted out, "KISS HER!" Well I looked into her eyes and they didn't say no....so I did. And that's when she snapped the picture. Then I exclaimed, "I gotta buy that picture! My wife will never believe me."
 
If the event is a double elimination format and its the first loss, I'll say something more than normal. Usually i'll say something like "see you in the finals," or "shake it off," or a little more conversation than knocking someone out completely.
