Forum Management

Forum Management today can be a ongoing and tedious chore, especially when targeted by spammers and other malevolents trying to exploit them. Considering the huge readership that this forum has, AZ must be doing doing right.

I have used many different forum solutions over the years, and even written and still do use one of my own in a restricted area. So I am interested to know how XEN caters for new members, new posts, IP blocks, etc. Are the moderators doing it easy?

AzBilliards administrator and moderators deserve a huge round of applause for keeping the Discussion Forum a safe place to network with like-minded folks.

I'm the founder and administrator of a private industry group that I started in 2015. It’s not an open group, though. We require applicants to answer three questions and agree to the group rules before being admitted as members. The goal is to keep out spammers and other nefarious characters.

There have been times when posts start heading in the wrong direction, sometimes even directed at the administrator (me). In those moments, I’ve tried to follow the command-and-control example set by Mike Howerton et al., remaining a neutral party when addressing threads that need guidance. And I don’t use the ban hammer unless it’s truly necessary.

I admire the moderation of the AzBilliards Discussion Forum and have taken a cue—pun intended—from the way they run things when managing my own industry group.

I'm amazed at how approachable these folks are. How quick they are to act and provide information when requested. No hand sitting or buck passing going on around here. Hat's off to AZ.

Some days are better than others. 👍

I too appreciate the kind words. I've owned/operated and managed forums of various genre's since around the turn of the century.

I have to say this has been one of my favorites to work with. Great crowd here and not an extreme amount of hooligans....although when I saw that J2 became a mod (before my time on staff) I thought to myself; "gee, they'll hire anyone these days!!" :P :P

When Mike approached me about doing this, it was down to me, and Benny Hill...I "won" by default.

And then there's you.
🙃 😉

I remember that day.....Sunday morning, just started sipping coffee so my brain was still slipping the clutch a little....I get on AZB for my morning dose and there's this DM about a temporary mod gig.... 🤣 ....and I'm still here!! I'm a glutton!

Good time to hit the boss up for a raise though. 🤔

You're not kidding. This inflation thing is a b!t$h. 😁

Are you the one that keeps reporting me?
So many people report you, we've actually had to put warning labels on some people's report buttons because of all your shenanigans.

Tell me about it.....Diesel is $4.29 now.....and my wife told me to stay the hell away from her car to avoid driving my pickup. Ohh well, weather is improving, I can get a Z out....ohh well fudge, those require premium.... I just can't win!

I've seen diesel north of $5 a gallon up here in Buckeye land.
😱
I'm glad I drive a 4-cylinder.
