Early Impressions Of The Diamond Professional

I've had the new table one month now. And so far I have noticed three things about this new Diamond Professional.

First, sad to say, the break still doesn't seem to be working for me. Similar results to the Gold Crown IV. Not sure what to do about this dilemma.

Second, those that said I would hang balls up in the pockets because of the deeper shelf were mistaken. At least so far. I have not really seen this happen at all at this point.

Thirdly, I seem to have more success on running out when I do finally get a ball down and have a decent spread. When I say I have more success it's not much more but it does seem to be the case.

Granted the pockets are slightly - SLIGHTLY - bigger than the Gold Crown and the cloth is still fairly new so we shall see how all of this plays out.

Pockets bigger than the GC?

I'm sure you told us before, but I forget. What size pockets?

No solution other than practice

Wait until the cloth is broken in.

Larger pockets vs the Gold Crown.

Bingo.

GCIV - 4.5 corners & 4.75 sides.

Diamond Professional - 4.75 corners and 5" sides.

Having said this, that's measuring from point to point on the Diamond. Between the facings it's more like 4.65 corners and 4.85 sides.

And I might want to check the bulbs on that cheap light I have above it. Those 5 lights might be 40 watt bulbs.

Just wondering if changing to 60 watt bulbs might give me a little more light.

How many times does Filler have to push out after the break? How many times does he play safe, on the first shot, after the break? How many times does he run a few, always knowing he intends to play safe? Too many highlight reels, raising unrealistic expectations. Too many BIH ghost videos. Beating the pro ghost is far beyond the capabilities of the vast majority of players. Enjoy your table, shoot well.

The Diamond is hardly "slightly" larger; 0.25" difference is quite a difference.

Pockets are always measured point to point. I was debating a guy on Facebook that his table had 4.25" pockets based on the pics he posted. I wish I were making it up. He died on that hill.

Are you some pro or what? I'm bettin you couldn't beat the 10b ghost racin to five on his new table. Have you ever played on D'mond LeagueCuts?? With the deep shelf they aren't all that easy.
I have yet to be in the same building as a Diamond anything. 5 BIH outs is conceivable on Chinese tables even. I'm no player but 10 ball is no Holy Grail either. Anyway my only interest in tables is as learning tools. And my interest in beating anyone at any level is right around zero. Also why I criticize various institutions. Nothing personal. It's all academic.

I purchased "Video Encyclopedia of 9-ball and 10-ball (VENT)" from Dr. Dave and Mr. Jewett. The first chapter was regarding the break and was enlightening to say the least! I don't get the same results as them on Diamond tables unless I use a rack template carefully with slower speed. If I'm having trouble during league I move away from the rail also. On my table I could never get the wing ball to go. I double checked my foot spot and it was off by 1/8" (closer to the head spot) which did make all the difference. It was my fault as I re-clothed and excitedly slapped the master spot down without much care because I wanted to get playing! This game is all about precision and that goes for equipment setup too.
