The cancelled event was a special event type that clearly was not ready for primetime.. the road to hell is paved with good intent!

As far as the umb's solvency, surely bert can opine better than I , but...

Googule says the umb has had close to 200 events over 49 years. Sustainable model...Pool: look and learn.

I've not been privy to any of the negotiations, but this is what I think is the construction: Drawshots, which is a private company, proposed a mini-tour intended to promote 3-cushion. You can only invite two ranked players to an invitational, any more and you'll have to pay a significant fee to the UMB. To circumvent that, UMB agreed to be listed as co-organizer so they could waive those fees. Drawshots - at the last moment - couldn't finance the Bogota event. It's a bit of a stretch to blame the UMB for that. The other Drawshots events are still on the UMB calendar, so it looks like those will be played. Hopefully without incidents, this sort of thing is horrible for the players. On the other hand, I hear that several overseas players have been invited into the homes of Colombians, to save them a week of hotel expenses. That warms my heart.
