never saw anything like that. but im old school must be a jump cue. which i dont use.
but looks like something you would find in walmart.

and epoxy will crack if being hit a lot.

That’s what I thought. Looks like someone used hardly any epoxy on the ferrel insert.
Well it should be a tight fit, so it will only be a thin layer of epoxy, so that's normal. The issue is almost always bad prep and the wrong epoxy used.

Thermal expansion occurring between dissimilar materials is typically to blame for issues like this. Don’t believe the folks that say leaving your cues in a hot/cold car won’t do anything, this is a likely result.

McDermott Defy vault plate came out.jpg

What happened? Did the Defy vault plate pop out of the shaft?

If so, and, if you don't want to go to the trouble of working with McDermott, can this be fixed by sanding off the old glue, cleaning with isopropyl alcohol, and regluing with super glue?

Here's a picture of a 2026 Defy front end. Doesn't look like your photo

I believe the newer Defy shafts had a different configuration/look than the first gen. I could be wrong...

Please tell me incidents like this was the real reason they got dunked on so hard when the Defy first came out.

The 2nd picture is so unflattering that it looks fake as all get out. Like I was at Toys R Us not on drugs and Geoffrey the Giraffe said, "Here kid, tell your parents to buy this" kind of fake and 30 years later I ended becoming a magician using the same fucking tube because my parents taught me better than to waste money.

Contact the folks at McDermott first. Give them a chance to make things right.
👍
They should pay for this man's kids' college funds while they're at it.

A buddy in my Sunday league has a third gen that he bought late last year and I am almost certain that it has a gray ferrule/vault plate similar to the OPs. If I remember, I'll take a picture of it.
