Doc Frye Cue Values

Hello, I have a few of Doc's cues and I am thinning out my collection.
However most of my cues I have somewhat an idea of value but with Doc's cues I can't find much information out there to base pricing on.

I will post some pics when I am able to but more looking for some general parameters of what they typically sell for.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

not many outside of his local area know anything about his cues or care. so to sell your's best spot is in his area where he made them.

some old time collectors may want them but they have to be a hard sell to anyone else.

My understanding is that he taught Gus, and their cues have similar playing characteristics. I paid $1,100 for one of my Frye's with original Cortland wrap and it does play like a Szam! It's a fantastic cue and encouraged me to finally purchase a Szam.

Gus said that Balabuska taught him a lot about cue making but not all and he had to figure out some things himself.
I never heard him mention Doc Fry, but Gus was pretty closed mouth on cue making.
Gus used to come to the pool room in Jersey once in a while as he was friends with the owner.
 
Yes I believe that Doc and Gus knew each other. I seem to remember many of Doc 's cues did not have points and were not actually signed- he would put a penny dated the year of cue make under the bumper . I would check for the pennies as that may be the only way to authenticate for most people. As per value- depending on condition and type of build- not much player demand, but from a collector standpoint, now maybe $500 to $1,000 depending on those factors.
 
Pictures and maybe we can come up with a ball park. My Ava is a Doc. Depending on the condition I'd say in decent condition around $1500-2000. Proficient Billiards is showing one that looks somewhat used and asking about $1500. You might want a figure from Scott at Proficient ...get in touch. maybe he will handle them on consignment.
My Doc... I had the shafts turned down... I knew at the time I would never sell mine so I was ok modifying them. However if I sold today I'd want at want at least $1500 and would look for $2000. A serious Doc collector is your target.

Was that Stanley McDowels room? Doc would go with Miz here and there. Doc came into the Cue and Cushion on Cottman Ave in Phila.

Thanks for the information, definitely appreciate everyone that has gave input. Here are the cues. Disregard the 2 on the right or top depending on which pic your looking at.

Do some research…. The ebony with the white spec wrap & stainless rings is my favorite. You have beautiful Doc cues. My gut is $15-$2000 .. maybe worth more. Offer them at $2000. They look like they’re in very good condition. Try contacting Scott at Proficient Billiards to appraise

I appreciate it Gold Crown. I have done some research and was not seeing much but i will admit its been a while :) since i looked..... I am better at using Chat gpt :ROFLMAO: now so would probably get better results lol.
 
This is my Doc Frye that was gifted to me by my good friend who purchased this cue directly from Doc in 1977. I didn't know about the hidden penny under the bumper. I love playing with this cue!
