Was watching the match against the Fillers today.
Different seeing Jason miss by allot at times, what caught my attention was his person/character/interaction/Zero with his partner.
No chemistry, no feeling of him wanting to work together to win.
He seems to have changed, never interacting with her and he's a father.
He seemed allot happier in the past.

Jayson broke his bridge hand a while back and was struggling because of that. I don’t know if it’s still an issue.

I’ve said before that Jayson is also one the last of the elite pros I’d want as a scotch doubles partner. He’s such a great shotmaker that I think he just assumes his partner can make anything and doesn’t concentrate as much on position. Now this observation was several years ago - maybe he’s more attentive to it these days.
 
Since winning the Hanoi Open and Turning Stone in 2023 Jayson hasn’t done much of note in tournaments. He would have been out of the top 25 on the money list last year if it weren’t for the 40k in Mosconi Cup winnings.

Broken pinky it seems is more accurate. Still wouldn’t want to play these monsters with that issue!

Shaw and Easton have been doubles partners before, so I doubt there's discomfort on either side with that arrangement. Shaw has definitely looked off this event, both in singles and doubles.
 
What is it with the men that they think they should coach on even the easiest and obvious shots?
I’m not sure about Grabe but I know Fu was a world champion. And Szewczyk is all over Hiraguchi and I don’t remember him doing anything except choking in the past. I’m done

Fu also made it to the finals of the last Predator event (both in singles and mixed doubles).
 
Probably unrelated, but it seems Shaw shot better when he played with an 8 inch extension. I noticed that both Shaw and SVB have stopped playing with an extension (although SVB sometimes uses one)

Playing all the time with an extension was a fad for a couple years, no clue why. A decent number of pros did it, so lots of league players suddenly did, even ones who played only on 7ft tables. Then the pros stopped, and I don't see any more league players doing it.

It’s an eye opening experience going to the golf course or pool hall with a skilled woman player and seeing how common it is for far less capable men to give them unsolicited advice.

Both SVB and Shaw seemed to play great with the extension- they won a lot of big tournaments- that old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" may apply- both seem to play worse without it, Shaw especially- may just be a coincidence though (perhaps natural age-related decline). Kaci is probably the one major pro still using a full extension now.

Out of curiosity, I started shooting with one around 7 years ago and have consistently used one since- don't know exactly why I like it, but it feels like it adds stability and power to my stroke.

This is true and real 100%.

But I’m not certain it’s just about gender in this case. My recollection of the old World Cup of Pool matches was that in many cases the “senior” member of the team would be telling the other male pro player what to do.

Sometimes this makes sense (eg SVB and Savannah or Filler and Reintjes at the WCP) but many times the players are close and they should just back off IMO. You’re probably right that the women get it more, though.

I am not a pro but I use an extension. I continue to use it to this day because I did not grow shorter over time and my wingspan has not changed. Without an extension my rear hand always ends with 2 fingers curled behind the bumper. I had a custom 2 1/2" extension made for my cue, my hand still ends up behind the wrap but that doesn't bother me. I also play a lot on 7' tables. I have seen guys at league that had cues taller than they were. Your height should dictate cue length, not the fact that you saw your favorite pro using one.

I think it is more just letting her play her game. He would show her where to kick sometimes and maybe where he would want the cue ball for certain shots.

A lot different from svb telling her what to do on every single shot when they played doubles.

Also, he was pretty pissed about the no foul call where they ended up getting hooked. After that, he really didnt seem to care what happened in the match.
