leather wrap labor time?

My cue repair guy just put a leather wrap that I supplied on my cue.
He had to remove the linen and replace with leather for a very reasonable $50.
My question is he said it takes him 4 hours to do the job, is this about right?
 
They do take quite awhile. Lots of prep work needs to be done. It's not like he's spending the entire time on it, most of the time is waiting on the glue to dry.

If that job took me more than 30 minutes, I'd quit. Four hours is crazy but for $50, you got a good deal and he lost his ass.

Kind of what I was thinking ... I would probably ask for prior work examples or go to someone else .... Rather have it done right

I saw several examples of his wrap work and it's excellant.
This is a side gig/hobby for him not his main source of income, how many cue repair guys drive a late model Corvette?

Can't beat the price.
4 hrs??? What, is he taking 3 half hr coffee breaks, surfing his phone, going in for a colonoscopy during the change over?

Wouldn't own one. More of an F350 dually kinda guy myself! ;)
 
Well we have local retired guy who does Tips, he charges $5.00 Labor, and cost of Tip pus a BUCK........Its a Hobby Business, he own the equipments, and has nice home, pension, cars, and is just helping local players. He does not need RIP PEOPLE OFF with CRAZY PRICES.

He’s basically providing a free service. I wouldn’t call it a business, more of a charity really.

So what you're saying is a cuemaker that is charging prices so they can make a profit and pay for their business and make a house payment, car payment and take the wife out to a nice dinner once in awhile is ripping people off? with crazy prices that are MORE than a hobby guy who really doesn't give a sh!t how much they make cause they like doing it for fun?

Nice job twisting what I said DAVE, the guy I mentioned is retired, like doing Tips & Wraps, and charge price based upon his business plan. He is sort of like hobbyist retired guy, doing a service for local pool players. Not worried about paying rent, or feed family, he is finally fixed. Nice place to be.

Don't worry Dave he is not taking any or your Cue Sales, as he don't make Cues. But he does deal in USED CUES, again charging a more than fair price for them.

Love the use of word "support" is that like some sort of charitable shake down like the Untied Way use to do each year telling employee their "FAIR" share to give United Way Annually Fund Raising Business Fund Raising. BTW I never gave United Way, or A.I.D there competitors a penny out of my check. Their well dress slick funraisers fundraisers were ac turn off. I have my own causes I like better.

IMHO a good production Cue maker survives on quality product, for fair price, and last stands behind their product. Then you got the Custom Guys, some have years waits, and people stand on line to give deposits, that is a nice place to be. Five or Ten years of Cues on order.

only if he fell asleep about 20 minutes into it. I charge $75 + with me supplying the blank, with ALL the prep, and I do move slow, start to finish is about an hour. I am retired and do it for the passion.....but 4 hrs.....IDK....nap time?
