How far would you travel for league? How far have you traveled for league?

I ask because some people in my APA league travel around an hour, which I wouldn't do. No judgment on them. I'm just wondering how many people would.

Thanks!

The farthest I ever travelled was from Yonkers to Queens at Carom Cafe for the weekly league nights. In NY traffic, it was about 45 minutes during dying rush hour and the thing that took up more time was finding parking. The league had their finale at Raxx which is on the western side of long island. It was on Saturday morning, so it took maybe half an hour to get there which is not bad because there was no parking trouble as they have a big lot.

I was recently in a league where a team would drive from Killeen/Temple to Round Rock, which is about 50 miles in rush hour traffic.

Can't say I'd do that myself. My max would probably be about 20 minutes in traffic. I am pretty lucky though. There are at least 5 decent to great halls within that distance for me.

We live a bit on the outskirts and travel about 30 highway miles. Only 35 minutes door to door but we do the round trip twice a week and one Sunday a month. Absent any extras like playoffs and/or tournaments, it's still 540 miles and 10.5 hours a month...

Good USAPL and BCA leagues and a great venue with quality equipment/food/staff, so well worth it.

30 minutes each way is my max, and I won't sign up for any league that doesn't essentially guarantee I'm playing that night (whether it's Double Jeopardy APA or another format).

I used to live one block away from my league room and didn't mind the nights I didn't play because I enjoyed just walking over and hanging out. But now I can't justify a long drive and leaving my family at home just to sit in a bar for hours and watch bad pool if there's a possibility I won't even play that night.

Depends on traffic, it takes me an hour to an hour and a half to get to league and most tournaments.
Nothing is happening in my city, I have to travel

That is where I would draw the line too.

I only play in a house league where you play every night your team is scheduled, so no surprise no-play nights or anything....that would be a non-starter for me.

I used to live about 1 mile away and that was awesome but recently moved and am not about 15-18mins away, which still isn't too bad. More than 30mins though and I would think twice and try to find something closer.

The only action halfway close to me is down in Evansville. And that's a little over an hour away. Too far for me to go once a week. Or perhaps more. Plus in the winter I am heavily involved in high school basketball so that would also be a factor to consider.

Like I've said for years, competition has always been something I've missed out on. Plus the two guys in my area that were both really good died of cancer years ago and I was left in basically an area where pool was somewhat non-existent.

In South Central South Dakota, the outlying locations might be an hour or more apart from each other.

When I moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, there were no leagues in town. Some thought the idea of a pool league was crazy in 1992. I found a league 90 miles away, but did not drive directly there to play except for one night. I often worked in Green Bay on Friday, so would stop at the location on my way home. My goal was to get qualified to play in the State Tournament. I was subbing for a weak team. The top team at the bar wanted to pick me up for the State T, so one night when I was stationed in Wisconsin Rapids on Friday, and agreed to work on Saturday, I made the 2.3 hour trip to get 3 matches played. I played the match games for two internal matches ahead of schedule plus the regularly scheduled match.

Worst part of the trip was that it rained and was about 30 degrees, so I had to drive 30 mph on the way back to Wis Rapids. I made it in time to shower and report to my shift, then drive home. Wasn't worth it.

There is a traveling league in Mitchell, SD where teams are put together with players that are far apart. One Saturday per month, four matches are played.

30 mins…….leagues are at night usually so depending on location & travel route, it can become a pain
in the ass commute or just wearisome, especially with inclement weather or feeling tired after a long day.

1/2 hr. One way commute….more than that and it becomes a deterrent to playing in a league. However,
tournaments are different and often are a road trip on the weekends involving pretty distant locations.

The last time I competed fairly regularly I lived on the West End of the twelve mile bridge. Crossing that bridge took between twelve minutes and close to three hours.

I had a major surgery. Allowed two hours for the drive, took closer to three. I wasn't worried, unlike a pool tournament, they wouldn't start the surgery without me! Allowing two hours to cross twelve miles of bridge was annoying. Often I crossed it in twenty minutes or less. Could be worse, I was coming in from the West. The variance was an even bigger swing from the North!

A weekly show, less than an hour. I used to fee the same way about work, more than hour drive and it felt like I deserved travel pay!
