$1.5M first place prize for Chinese tournament next week

Love the theatrics at the end where they just give him a mound of cash and burlap bags to stuff it all in 💰

Since about the 31st game, he's been milking the clock to protect his big lead. He's playing like a guy that wants to win 1.4 million and doesn't give a shit what it looks like
he was using the rules of the game to further his chances of collecting money. if they don't want that they can change the rules. rules can be used both ways, for you or against you.

what a victory for Wu, phenomenal! and that payday!!!!!!

this is the chinese game that american pool players can play,
playing catchup around 8 ball pattern recognition I think is too much of a gap

so is Wu back as an elite?
seems to me with this form he could potentially return to american nine ball and smoke damn near everyone

Wu was on my list (and that of many people) as top 5 in the world in the late 2010s. Lost a close one to Filler at the 2019 US Open final. Then he left the scene during and after Covid.

Based on how I saw him play this week, he’s playing at a similar level.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure he’s going to bother with “American” pool. Maybe he would play world 9b championship if he got a spot in the event. Or maybe the Chinese government or his sponsors would get him to play the World Cup of Pool if MR ever does it again.

Very nice to see wu again!
If he can play is game, probably the best technical player of it.
If Filler and Gorst go play to that chinese format they are title contenders too. All others are several points bellow the chinese crew.

for me the magnitude and historic importance is that an American style trained player and former world champ
has just won a form of Chinese pool and even dominated the finals

the fact that it is Wu with his story makes it even more remarkable, plus the payout of course

truly a special and historic victory

and yeah the pace in general needs to speed up and the ball cleaning was ridiculous but it is far more exciting than 8 ball

Wu has always been elite. In the first 1/3 of the match, he was behind a little bit, then in a span of about 5 or 6 games he got some CRAZY good rolls, then in a 6 game span he had 3 B&Rs, a 9 on the break, and a regular win (41 - 4 run in 6 games). Once he got way ahead, he shortened the match as much as he could by using the shot clock and way outplaying Zheng in the safety game. Like a football team minimizing the number of possessions the other team might get.
Triple smart player, as the old timers might say.
I was rooting for him to win, but I didn't think anybody could cope with how Zheng was running out. Wu is my favorite player to watch play pool. Hopefully he might want to, and be allowed to, travel abroad and play some regular pool.
