Redesigning the Pool Table Light: High Performance Meets Architectural Design

Hello Everyone,

My husband and I are pool players and designers, motivated to drastically improve the table lights found over most of the tables we play on.

We wanted to create something that offers high-performance illumination while serving as a beautiful piece of architectural design:
Introducing the New Standard.

Architectural & Optical Specifications:

- Tournament-Calibrated Optics: A 50W commercial LED panel paired with our 70% transmission acrylic delivers a perfectly even, glare-free wash of light.

- True Color Clarity: Locked into a permanent 4000K neutral blend, ensuring authentic color rendering for billiard cloth and interior finishes. Alternate color temperatures are available upon request.

- Solid Oak Chassis: A 1x4 foot solid oak frame, detailed with a continuous horizontal architectural groove and capped with vintage metal corner brackets for a resilient, finished edge.

- The Maker’s Mark: Centered by our signature gold and matte black Ablaze control plaque.

- Turnkey Operation: Designed for immediate, reliable home or commercial use featuring an inline ON/OFF rotary switch and a chain suspension system.

Additional features include a 50,000-hour lamp life. The internal light panel can be easily replaced in the event of failure. Furthermore, the internal fixture has both UL and ETL certification. Our fixtures are considered Class 2 "decorative housings," allowing inspectors to easily access the internal fixture, junction box, and components.

First five units priced at $549 + shipping.

We just launched our Kickstarter campaign to bring the first production run to life, and we are excited to share it with this community first.

How many Lumens does the lamp produce and what is the CRI?

You need to place your ad(s) in the ForSale section. Good luck trying to do this as a Kickstarter project. How long will this thing last? People buy a light and the co. folds a year later. You see where i'm going?

Sorry but $540 for a 1x4 light that still needs diffusers is insane. I'm a serious wood worker with a full furnished shop and if you can make it at $550 for a 1x4 light that still needs work, I'm going in business tomorrow, and I for sure don't need Kickstarter, I have the funds to go full in on production. You better rethink your design and pricing.

This is a Kickstarter project rather than a immediate purchase of a table light designed for 7’ and 8’ pool tables.

The more the merrier, we say, as long there are options.

Good looking light. I hope you do well.

One thing I’ve noticed around is that places will have maybe one table that they put a camera in and when they have their big monthly tourney they’ll stream on Facebook. It is usually pretty crummy quality.

Have you thought about making a camera mount in your unit that would be set for a specific height above the table for a certain camera angle for 7, 8, or ,9 footers?

I would think that there would be a demand for that in the commercial space, as people can’t seem to figure it out without bringing in outside sources.

I think forum member Iusedtoberich had a thread about his quest to create a better view a couple few years ago. (I’m to lazy to look for it.)

Keep up the good work.

Well said. That is something I would definitely be interested in.

The New Standard produces 5500 lumens. I'm not sure of the CRI, as we have not tested it.
This is something you really should know. No offense, but you don't seem to have done your research here. You have built what looks like a quality piece of craftsmanship, but you really should know your audience and what is important to them.

Maybe they can hire you as their contract manufacturer. You can turnkey the deal at $450 per unit all in at a 60%GM. Then you cash app them$100 royalty per light in perpetuity.. 🤷‍♂️

That would be foolish on my part, I would just do the whole thing my self, there would be no need for them. Why would I cut myself out of $100. Actually the best thing for me to do would be to sell a 2'x6' light $450. I've actually got over a 1000 ft of lumber, maple and oak already.
To be honest, I'm not looking for another job, just trying to point out to them that they are stacking the cards against them. If you need kick starter to fund your idea you better rethink something like this or at least learn as to what pool players want.
I do have lumber, a huge wood shop with everything needed, and the experience and money to do it, just not the desire. Actually thought about this about 6 yrs back. I made a nice and more practical 2'x6' version 6 yrs back for $170 in an afternoon with nothing pre set up. Same cost to finish instead of paint.

That was meant as a joke

I built both my lights to match the table they were above. Both were 5000K, over 20,000 Lumens with a CRI of 90. All ideal specs. I wish you well in your endeavor, but I think you've got more R&D to do before you're ready to seek investors and start selling.

Yep, doesn't look like much heavy R&D was done before deciding to 'kickstart' this venture. Coming here and asking these questions WELL before any production/sales seems to be the better idea. Wish them well but they may be up against it.

Kickstarter for a woodworking project!? There is no tooling in a woodworking project! Come on! I hope you guys are legit pool players and have thick skin.

Anytime I see something on kickstarter, I say to myself "these people are broke, and have no f'in idea what they are doing".
