Can shaft with radial thread be tapped to fit into 3 8/10 (modified) pin and also still fit radialradial pin?

I had a kielwood done that way. It split out at the joint but to be fair there was no insert, just tapped into the wood, which is much more brittle than regular maple.
The bad part is I didn't ask for that, I think he tapped radial and then found out I had modified 3/8-10. It was a replacement for another cracked kielwood so I just said to hell with it and went with CF. I love the sound of kielwood but I've never had a broken shaft with maple... I didn't even break with the thing.
I think it could work fine long term but definitely use an insert. I'm just starting in cuemaking so I'd not take anything I say as gospel, just an anecdote to consider.
That sucks about the kielwoods. I heard they're nice. I've only seen one in person. Did it split during drilling/tapping? or afterwards when playing with it?
I got a maple shaft with phenolic joint with a radial thread. Not sure if that would split if it's tapped for 3x8/10. Maybe the phenolic joint would keep it from splitting..?

It was while playing. They are phenomenal playing and sounding shafts, I'd definitely request a phenolic plug if I were to get another. In all honesty it could have been the dude who made it, he's just getting started.
No is my definitive answer. The reason people think this "works" is because all the big pins basically have a 5/16"/8mm minor, so you can stuff any pin in there with enough force.
If you have a look at how those threads are cut on top of each other, it doesn't matter if it's phenolic, micarta, Hydex or wood, it's not a secure connection long time.
Just have your shaft plugged and tapped or if you have several butts, have the pin changed or even better, just accept that not everything works together..

I'm not the OP, but I'm sincerely thankful for the info. I didn't request it on mine that broke and I highly suspected it wasn't a good mechanical connection. It's great to hear a factual confirmation from someone with skill and knowledge in cuemaking.
With this info, I'll never do it for a customer or on a cue that I make. I had my suspicions and now I know.
