Have You Played Short Rack 9 Ball?

I spotted the below ad and wondered how much different could it be than playing 3 ball. So I showed the ad to a buddy since we’re always looking for away to run a mini-tournament among friends but time constraints always seemed to be a challenge. Things like which format, how short or long a race should be, etc. This seemed like it might be a way to do an impromptu tournament when a sufficient number of players are around. If nothing else, just a new way to play pool to see if it has pluses and minuses.

So we tried this format today at the pool hall and the consensus was it’s a lot of fun but way too easy. Pocketing a ball on the break to the corner pocket is easy and running 3 balls afterward is not difficult at all, especially since it’s not call pocket 9 ball. You can beat anyone if they miss a shot there’s so few balls. Heck, make a ball on the break and it’s easy to run the remaining 3 balls. This is harder than 3 ball butnot by a lot. It’s a fun way to gamble for best score with the pot going to the last man standing but for a tournament, I don’t think so. But at least you can count on the pace of play being fast with lots of runouts.

FYI thx for the post, but you've got quite a few things that need addresssing ''The Rack Racker".
Breaker never racks.... because if they did they would not get the balls FROZEN.
THE 9 ball racks on the spot, alternate break and alternate racker.

If the racker leaves the wing balls loose, they do go in the corners because of this the racker will NEVER rack the balls loose.

The racker is allowed to rack the nine low/medium or high on the spot.
The racker should be AWARE of where he racked and if breaker makes nothing....put em there again.

THE WING BALLS IF RACKED tight MOST ALWAYS HIT ABOVE THE CORNER POCKETS AND BANK 6 RAILS INTO THE KITCHEN and Never Pocket.
Make sure the rack is not tilted left or right, if you do.... then One wing ball is likely to pocket.

If your rack too low the wing balls go when the rack is tight, too high the one goes in the side.
I've heard many times players saying I can't make a ball on the break.
So BAVA implement the racking properly allowing the racker to find the low/med/high spot where balls don't always go then let us know.
Races to 7 alternate break take max 38 minutes on a 7 '.

Thanks…..we’ll give it another try…….when we did it the run out rate got so high that we wanted to add more balls.
It was just way too easy. In one of my matches I was down 4-0 before I got to shoot and lost 7-5 because my break
sucks. That’s why I wrote it was way too easy but the pace of play was refreshing. A couple of matches had a exchange
of safeties by players that had even matches underway and only 1-2 games to play to win. That became a death of a 1000
cuts because both opponents played some wicked safeties so it was a game of who misses first.

We’ll give it another try because I like playing 3 ball with 5 players on a 9’ table for $0.50/ game. It is cheap play and you can win $2.00 bucks per game because it is played one player ties, then all players tie. It’s a push game so ante up anuda couple of quarters and play again. One afternoon we had a session where it pushed 13 times so on the next game, the winner collected $28.00 and everyone else lost $7.00 on that one game. As the afternoon rolled along, players left & new players joined. The stakes became $1 per game & I suppose stakes are whatever you can afford.
 
Yeah held one6 ball event with 27 players, the best players always win.
My game is like TX Hold'm it's a game where an average player has a very good chance at winning.
I'd never get into a tournament with SVB in six ball race to 7 got no shot, waste of my time.
TX Hold'm is thee only card game avg poker players will play with the pros, and often it's thee only game they will play.
No pool game offers a 600 fargo any chance to beat 700 Fargo players, after awhile, the 600's get tired of paying Their Rent.
 
The racker has allot of ability to control the game, and the racker will NEVER leave balls loose, unless they wanna lose.
Let us know how it goes with the above rules.
Sounded like you racked the one on the spot. NOT GOOD

You guys throw the money on the table and play on top of the bills, right??
 
Anyone remember 7 ball? The local hall has a group that started playing that and it's a nice, fast paced game and I forgot how much fun it is after the break figuring out which side is yours so you can plan your game around it.
 
This rack structure when tight, balls don't pocket.
And there's five less balls on table.
All this game is doing is giving a weaker player a Great chance at winning and being done by dinner time.
Never playing at midnight into Sundays, it won't hurt the room owners Saturday night crowds.... they pay the rent.

Yeah, but 9 ball doesn't need Explaining to pool players.
The more balls on table the better player Always wins.
What's wrong with offering a game to the weaker players that gives them a real chance at beating or advancing further than the better players?
How many times have you been on a flow chart seeing your next opponent that you can't beat and have never beaten?
SR9B.... I do a redraw every round, you never know who you'll play, and you might get a buy.
