It's a stun, spin shot. You don't have to hit way outside to do it if you hit harder; the case in point.

yea with that position depending on how hard you hit it likely the cue ball will stop or go a little straight forward and spin a little bit to the right on a dead center hit.
that clears everything up.
if pj would just use a normal sized tip he wouldn't have all these issues.
that small tip will make the cueball curve a lot even trying to hit dead center because of the curvature of the thin shafts tip .
and you then will be hitting dead center at an angle which cuts the object ball so you have to adjust for that especially with a wood shaft.
and the wippyness of that thin shaft creates additional deflection that cant easily be measured as you are cutting across the object ball without using englsih..

If “juice” means spin, that depends on curvature, not size. Same offset with same curvature = same contact point, regardless of size.
If “juice” means power - that depends on total stick weight, not tip size.

If you used a smaller tip you might realize there’s no difference except less squirt and greater visibility.

I'm still lost. I thot op was talking about a double hit on the cueball. How'd we wind up here!??It would be like a force-follow shot, with a lot of side spin, except without the usual look of a force-follow. The cue ball hits the target ball with force, basically stuns but drifts forward, and due to the side spin applied, the cue ball 'grips' the cushion and takes off at a wider angle than the approach.

Assuming any reasonable tip curvature, if edge of tip touches the vertical line as depicted, the contact part of the tip is diameter dependent. I use 13s and sometimes a 12. Both provide ample "leverage" to get the ball spinning.
